Popstar Selena Gomez is trending on YouTube after releasing a creative shot-for-shot fan remake of her popular 'Boyfriend' music video, which made headlines earlier this month.

The new video is exactly the same as her original 'Boyfriend' music video, which was released on April 10, except for one crucial difference. While the initial music video was a live-action affair featuring Gomez and other actors, this new video, made by one of Selena's fans, is a stop-motion redux version featuring dolls instead of humans.

It will look instantly familiar for fans of the popular Adult Swim claymation comedy 'Robot Chicken'. It seems like the ingenious Selenator has taken a page out of the show's creative playbook with this entertaining new project. Gomez loved it so much that she actually released it via her official YouTube channel.

The premise for the new 'Boyfriend' doll video remains pretty much unchanged. It shows the doll version of Gomez cruising around in her car at night, with a cage containing frogs in the convertible's backseat.

We then see her picking up a mysterious purple vial of magic potion from a coven of witches, and thereafter embarking on a series of ill-fated dates. Once Selena realizes that the dates are going nowhere (the guy is too boring or she just isn't interested anymore), she turns them into frogs and laments: "I want a boyfriend / But I just keep hitting dead ends / Try to take a shortcut, but I get cut again and again / Tell me, are there any good ones left? / I keep finding wrong ones, but I want love again and again."

When the original music video was released, many fans saw it as a calculated swipe aimed at her previous high-profile singing exes — The Weeknd and Justin Bieber. But this time, fans are quite entertained, mostly because some of the dolls that the Gomez fan used to represent her dates are actually action figures of K-pop stars. Plenty of viewers are saying that the usage of Jin and Jungkook dolls from the South Korean supergroup BTS means that Gomez has finally collaborated with the Bangtan Boys, albeit unwittingly. BTS's fanbase the ARMY number is close to a hundred million, and they have been flooding the comments section of the new 'Boyfriend' doll music video.

"LET'S ALL REMEMBER THE DEBUT OF JUNGKOOK AND JIN'S DOLL," said one fan, while another posted, "I cannot stop laughing when I see the tremendous debut that the Jin and Jungkook dolls are having hahaha great." Another viewer said, "The closest to having a collab between BTS and Selena Gomez."

However other fans were quick to point out, "The reason we Selenators love her so much is she’s always connecting with fans and makes us feel like a family. Look how she put a fan-made video officially."

Another viewer said, "Why this girl is so kind-hearted? WHY ‍She put a video made by her a fan on her official Youtube Channel... She could have put this on her story or page... I am proud to be a Selenator." Another fan observed, "The fact that she posted a fan video in her official youtube account is a reason why I stan this queen."
