West Virginia schoolteacher accused of sexually assaulting 11th-grade student inside classroom multiple times
A West Virginia high school teacher is facing charges for sexually assaulting an 11th-grader in his classroom. Jonathan Michael McNemar, 27, a social studies teacher at Petersburg High School, is now facing charges after a 19-year-old woman told Grant County deputies that he had sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions on school grounds when she was a minor. According to The Inter-Mountain, the assault was reported in late-July and had happened during a three-month period in 2018.
According to the newspaper, a criminal complaint about the assault reveals that McNemar told the victim that he “wanted to speak to her about rumors” circulating about the pair. McNemar allegedly wanted to talk privately in a classroom closet to "hug it out" but then "squeezed" the student's backside, which made her leave right away. McNemar later asked her to send him explicit images and videos of herself, which she did, authorities say. The victim was also asked to set up a fake Facebook account so she and McNemar could swap nude photos and sex videos.
McNemar then summoned the girl using Facebook Messenger, at the end of the school year, to his classroom. The complaint reveals there he touched her breasts before the student performed oral sex on him. “The oral sex escalated to [intercourse] after she verbally expressed ‘no’ and ‘stop’ multiple times,” authorities add. Just a week later, McNemar asked the girl to come to his classroom again, and they had sex for a second time there. The student had kept a dress she had worn at the time of the second assault, which is now being processed as evidenced.
Officers have confirmed that the victim was in McNemar’s class at the time of the assault, reports the newspaper. According to WHSV, McNemar was arrested on August 10, after being charged with second-degree sexual assault, sexual abuse by a guardian, displaying obscene matter to a minor, and soliciting a minor via computer. He remained jailed on Friday in lieu of $115,000 bond. The Cumberland Times-News reports that since the arrest, McNemar has resigned his post and the Grant County Board of Education is supposed to recommend accepting it at the end of the month.
This news comes shortly after yet another teacher was accused of sexually abusing her teen student, allegedly driving to a park after school to have sex with him. As reported previously by MEA WorldWide, the 23-year-old engaged female teacher's act was caught on CCTV footage. Identified as Monica Young, the teacher was accused and charged in July 2020 after her victim, a 14-year-old, told police she had sex with him. The victim had also added that Young had sent him explicit messages on Snapchat and asked him to share explicit photos of himself with her.
Young is currently facing 10 charges, including multiple counts of aggravated sexual intercourse with a child, two counts of sexually touching a child intentionally, and inciting a minor to touch her sexually. The last of those charges come from an allegation that Young placed the victim's hand on her thigh in the classroom, further inciting him to put his hand inside her tights and fondle her vagina.
