CAIRO, EGYPT: A Saudi businessman, Muhammad Al-Qahtani, died while giving a speech during the Arab-African Conference in Cairo on August 9, which was held to celebrate the accomplishments of the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah Saeed Hussein Khalil el-Sisi.

In a shocking video, a Saudi businessman, who was the Chairman of the board of Al-Salam Holding Company and reportedly held a number of honorary positions as a goodwill ambassador, can be seen delivering a speech at the conference when he suddenly lost consciousness before collapsing. Until his sudden collapse, Al-Qahtani didn't appear to be ill and the footage shows him speaking normally and even turning several times to gesture at people on the side. Report suggests that he appreciated UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed as “the Dean of Humanity and a man of peace” before falling to the ground. Al-Qahtani's wife, Aisha Al-Jabri, was also in attendance, as per The New Arab. The reason behind his sudden death is still not clear, however, Gulf News mentions that he might have died due to a heart attack.

As per NY Post, an Egyptian YouTuber Abdullah Elshrif wrote that Al-Qahtani died after being taken away to another room by security guards at the conference, which was attended by representatives of international, regional, and Arab bodies and organizations, as well as a number of ambassadors and Arab personalities.

'Not one of the Saudi ambassadors'

A number of people reposted the video referring to Al-Qahtani, who before relocating to the UAE in the year 1995, started his career at Aramco, a Saudi Arabian public petroleum and natural gas company based in Dhahran, as the Saudi ambassador in the caption, which was later fact-checked by Misbar. They said, "Misbar investigated the circulating clip and found it misleading. The video clip depicts the death of Saudi businessman Muhammed bin Nasser bin Wazan Al-Qahtani, not the death of the Saudi ambassador to Egypt. Misbar discovered a Twitter account called Muhammad bin Nasser bin Wazan Al-Qahtani, as the person in the account is the same person in the circulating video." This was also confirmed by Osama Naqli, the current Saudi ambassador to Egypt, that the person in the circulating video is a businessman, not one of the Saudi ambassadors or diplomats.
