Sam Raimi directing 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' may be one of Marvel's best decisions yet

The Marvel Cinematic Universe boasts a pretty massive list of talented directors from Russo Brothers to James Gunn to Taika Waititi. But now, the MCU has signed on a master filmmaker whom fans have wanted to see involved in the expansive universe for years: horror legend Sam Raimi.

Raimi has already made quite a name for himself in the superhero movie genre, having helmed the original 'Spider-Man' trilogy starring Tobey Maguire that most fans grew up watching. So you can understand why we think this is probably the best decision Marvel has made since they cast Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark.

His superhero credit and directorial talent are both legendary and it's also quite fitting that the movie Raimi will be directing is 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness'. Raimi is perhaps best known for his innovative work on 'Evil Dead', one of the most iconic horror movies of all time and with 'Doctor Strange 2' set to explore the horror side of Marvel, there's no director better to helm the project.

What's even better is that Raimi has perfected the genre of horror-comedy, perfectly balancing screams and laughter and controlling the audience like a conductor controlling an orchestra. Considering the MCU has always pursued something of a comedic line, perhaps this could be an interesting experiment in merging that trademark family-friendly humor with Raimi's brand of gore horror.

In any case, Raimi has wanted to helm a 'Doctor Strange' project for a very long time, even including an easter egg reference to the character in his second 'Spider-Man' movie.

"I loved Doctor Strange as a kid, but he was always after Spider-Man and Batman for me, he was probably at number five for me of great comic book characters," Raimi said during a conference call with reporters. "He was so original, but when we had that moment in 'Spider-Man 2' I had no idea that we would ever be making a Doctor Strange movie, so it was really funny to me that coincidentally that line was in the movie. I gotta say I wish we had the foresight to know that I was going to be involved in the project."

Do you think Sam Raimi's involvement might be just what the upcoming 'Doctor Strange' sequel needs? Or do you think another director might have been better to head this project? Let us know in the comments.
