Director Sam Raimi confirms he will be directing the 'Doctor Strange' sequel 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness'.

This piece of news comes after Scott Derrickson, who was supposed to helm the project dropped out following differences with Marvel Studios. Raimi is best known for his work on Sony's 'Spider-Man' trilogy starring Tobey Maguire, and fans are amped as they shared their opinions after hearing the news.

For some, it was a good thing. "Being able to say Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness is like music to my ears just saying it! He’s directing another prodigal son of Ditko. This is gonna be truly spectacular.." a fan tweeted. "The best news I've received all week," wrote another. "Hope he could bring more his own cinematography style and emphasize the story aspect just like he did to #SpiderMan2 , Benedict Cumberbatch can act and he could explore the depth of the character of Stephen Strange," opined one of the fans.

The news didn't come as a surprise to this fan in particular. "Dude, are you kidding me? They want it to be the first MCU horror movie. His bread and butter are horrors and he made 2 of the best superhero movies pre MCU. Total no brainer!" he wrote.

"Awesome. I know he loves the character and he’s done some fantastic stuff, so I can’t wait to see how this movie turns out. I’m hyped," said a fan. "think if Disney let Raimi make something truly scary that no matter the rating or the strangeness (pun intended) it would do well if it was good. Children might not see it but it would be something fresh Marvel really needs," one of the tweets read.

Fans also hoped for a Tobey Maguire or a Bruce Campbell cameo in the film. "Bruce Campbell cameo is a sure thing now!" wrote a fan. "I hope I can see Tobey in a little bit of a scene. I want this so much. This would be a perfect surprise!! hoped one of the fans. "Please let there be a Tobey Macguire cameo," tweeted one of the fans.

While much of the plot details remain under wraps, Marvel has confirmed that Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) will play a major role in the sequel, while Wong (Benedict Wong) and Baron Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) are expected to return alongside Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch).

What are your thoughts on Raimi helming the 'Doctor Strange' sequel?
