LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Hulu’s psychological drama adapted from Alexis Schaitkin’s novel titled ‘Saint X’ has reached its halfway mark. A few more subplots are coming to the fore while the mystery surrounding the death of Alison Thomas does not seem like it will be solved anytime soon. While the progress is slow, the show seems to be adamant for the long haul to tease its viewers, dragging the show without much meat in it.

The fourth episode named “A Disquieting Emptiness” is another attempt to expand on the characters surrounding the world of Alison. Her parents, especially her father is concerned about Edwyn’s growing closeness to her daughter, Tyler learns of Alison and Edwyn’s bond and the married man ogling Alison is warned by her to stay far away. While all this transpires in the past, Emily Thomas, Alison’s sister inches closer to the inner world of Gogo, the man who worked with Edwyn at the resort when Alison was murdered. Edwyn and Gogo remain the prime suspects in the murder of Alison but in the opening image of the episode, we see Gogo exiting the prison after serving his sentence for possession of drugs. Edwyn is nowhere to be seen.

Can Edwyn really be trusted?

Edwyn’s character on the show is a boy brimming with self-confidence and notoriety. He’s a masterful flirt who gets the attention of Alison, sweet talks with every guest in the resort, and convinces Gogo to hide the drugs under his bed that he retrieved from one-eye Mike for a profitable return. Even Alison’s father is wary of Edwyn’s intentions for her daughter. Gogo believes that he was betrayed by Edwyn, which eventually sealed his fate and got him to prison. After coming out of prison, Gogo came straight to New York, promising Sara that he will provide for her and his son. He makes this confession to Emily in the present timeline but doesn’t mention that it was because of Edwyn that he was thrown into the hell of prison.

However, the biggest dagger in the heart moment comes at the end of the episode when Gogo calls Sara and learns that she has married Edwyn. Gogo goes berserk and starts screaming and punching his apartment walls not before informing Sara that Edwyn cannot be trusted. He begs Sara to ask Edwyn about the truth of Alison’s murder. Edwyn might come across as a harmless character, but all evidence points to the contrary, especially when Gogo has been vocal about Edwyn’s heinous deeds.

Tyler is jealous and the married man, Ethan is a sexual creep

Apart from Edwyn, Tyler, and Alison have been an on-off couple at the resort. Tyler believes that Alison is completely into him as she smiles when she passes by him and has a playful conversation with him. Alison and Tyler also shared a kiss in the previous episode, making Tyler believe that she will sleep with her. Although Alison is a free spirit who is inclined towards Edwyn and when Tyler learns of this, well, it’s not a happy moment for him.

The married man who is vacationing with his wife continues to ogle Alison, but in this episode she confronts him. Alison asks him to stop with his creepy looks and exits. We later see him in his bathroom, with shots that he stole from Alison, which he fondles.

The number of suspects keeps on piling up with each one of them with their unique motives. Only time will reveal the true killer in this tedious walk to the end of the show.

Tune in to watch ‘Saint X' new episodes on Hulu every Wednesday.
