SCOTUS overruled Roe vs Wade landmark judgment that legalized abortion in the United States and that has led to a worldwide debate. Of course, the citizens are once again divided with some in favor of the decision and some against it. Those against initially blamed former President Donald Trump for appointing three conservative justices during his time in the White House. However, it did not take long for these people to shift their attention to the late Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. While they did blame her, they also targeted Barack Obama in the process.

People placed the blame on RBG, claiming that she stayed in the office for a bit too long and that if she had stepped down sooner while President Obama was still in office, that would have given him the opportunity of appointing another liberal justice. However, she died in September 2020, and Trump saw this as an opportunity to nominate conservative Justice Amy Coney Barrett. According to some social media users, RBG's passing away at the age of 87 allowed Trump to bring in someone who shared his conservative views.

Dorothy Samuels, New York Times editor, talked to Politico about RBG. She said, "This is so multilayered because she cared so passionately about advancing equality for everybody. She figured out a way to get women to be part of the constitution. And yet, what she has helped to give us is a court that for a long, long time is going to be undoing the equality rulings that she was part of. It was an extraordinarily self-centered thing to do."

Back in 2012, people had started asking for her retirement which would indeed result in a safe replacement to be installed before the 2012 elections. By this time, she had been suffering from colon and pancreatic cancer. However, she just gave a cold shoulder to these requests and continued sitting in the Office. Now, fans are pointing this fact out and blaming it for the Supreme Court overruling Roe vs Wade landmark.

Internet blames RBG for Roe vs Wade overturn

After blaming the Supreme Court justices for this controversial decision of allowing individual states to come up with their own abortion laws, people quickly jumped in to slam RBG and Obama. People pointed out the changes that could've happened in the series of incidents if RBG had stepped down. One user talked about a different reality and said, "In another timeline, Hillary Clinton wins. Merrick Garland becomes a Justice. RBG retires. Anthony Kennedy doesn't. There is no Gorsuch. There is no Kavanaugh. There is no Coney Barrett. These are the consequences of ONE election."

Another user wrote, "It feels like Democrats owe their people an apology for being bad at their jobs - they had a long time to codify Roe v. Wade, defend a balanced court, get RBG to step down, etc. Instead they got played and trounced. “Help undo our failures!” is not a compelling rallying cry."

One user said, "This day brought to you by Ruth Bader Ginsburg's narcissistic refusal to retire. Thank you, RBG!" Another user said, "seeing a significant amount of people mad about bernie sanders in 2016 when they should be mad that RBG didn’t retire under obamas and are ignoring the fact that she went to that wedding during covid and died a week later, it’s her fault if we are playing the blame game."

One user blamed the Democrats for this 'day', saying, "Obama not codifying Roe. Pushing Hilary instead of Bernie in 2016. RBG refusing to step down when Obama had the super majority. Democrats have their share of blame today."

Another user said, "Clearly the right-wing ghouls that have been pushing this for decades are monsters but they weren't exactly subtle here so yes, in my view, a large amount of blame goes to RBG for not retiring and Obama for not acting."
