Since February 2, 2021, Limbaugh has been off the air and has missed several shows in this period of treatment of his cancer. "I wasn't expected to make it to October, and then to November, and then to December," Limbaugh told listeners just before Christmas, "and yet, here I am."
Radio host Ken Matthews, who, according to Snerdley's tweet was filling in for Limbaugh on Wednesday, February 10, took to Twitter to share an image of the duo. "I'm Guest Hosting for Mr Limbaugh today on the EIB NETWORK 12-3p ET See you on the radio from my Pennsylvania Broadcast Bunker (PBB). God Bless America. Snopes is for Dopes," he wrote.

In no time, prayers and love from listeners came pouring in from probably every corner in America. Many listeners shared intimate experiences when listening to Limbaugh, with some dating back decades. "I hate Rush. This is what I would say when as a child my dad would be listen to him in his car. Now I can say enough how much I love him and his wisdom. My heart breaks that he isn’t feeling well. I miss his voice and hope he heals soon. Prayers," one user tweeted.
"I fear the end is near for Rush. It's breaking my heart that he is missing so much time lately. I continue to pray as you and others fill in so dutiful," another user added. "Always praying for healing and a full recovery for America’s Anchorman. Rush, you have been in my life since I was a kid and my dad would have you on the radio. I am now 46 and am thankful for your steadfast love of God and country," another user who treasured Limbaugh as a host.

In January 2020, 70-year-old Limbaugh found out that he had advanced lung cancer and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Donald Trump at the State of the Union address shortly afterward. At the time, the talk show host missed shows in order to undergo treatment on a regular basis.
Regardless of that, he returned time and again to his golden EIB microphone whenever possible. Back in December, Limbaugh had said, "My point in all of this today is gratitude," he said. "My point in all of this is to say thanks and tell everybody involved how much I love you from the bottom of a sizable and growing and still-beating heart."
