'Roswell: New Mexico': New trailer indicates the reboot will be putting a whole new spin on the original
Fans are already stating that the new one is nothing like the original, but will the story be different now that it is based on the book?
The CW has brought back the 90's teen sci-fi drama, 'Roswell', and with the release of the new trailer, it seems that the reboot will look at the current political situation, including the immigrant crisis. Coming from writer Carina Adly MacKenzie ('Originals'), the show which is based on the Melinda Metz's book 'Roswell High' will probably pick up from where the original Jason Katims-created drama had left, back in 2002. The show had then starred Shiri Appleby and Jason Behr, whose characters will now be taken up by Jeanine Mason and Nathan Parsons.
The description of the show reads as, "After reluctantly returning to her tourist-trap hometown of Roswell, New Mexico, the daughter of undocumented immigrants discovers a shocking truth about her teenage crush who is now a police officer: he’s an alien who has kept his unearthly abilities hidden his entire life. She protects his secret as the two reconnect and begin to investigate his origins, but when a violent attack and long-standing government cover-up point to a greater alien presence on Earth, the politics of fear and hatred threaten to expose him and destroy their deepening romance.”

As referenced in the description, the latest trailer reveals a relationship developing between the immigrants' daughter, Liz Ortecho (played by Mason) and her childhood sweetheart, Max (played by Parsons). The trailer takes a look at the budding romance and its subsequent downfall as Max reveals his truth to Liz. The series, directed by Julie Plec of 'The Vampire Diaries', features a cast that includes 'Pretty Little Liars' actor Tyler Blackburn, former TVD cast member Michael Trevino, and Nathan Parsons of 'The Originals'. In spite of the brilliant cast, fans are not yet certain if the reboot will do justice to the original.
Regarding the trailer, some fans have stated their doubts about the show's authenticity. A fan on Facebook commented, " I missed the old Roswell cast! Hopefully, this is good as the first one. Just wished they would’ve just started this new series as they left off from graduation and the whole running away from the FBI instead of repeating the whole show." Some fans have also expressed their eagerness to watch the old cast take up their roles, and others have claimed that the original soundtrack was far better. " I need the old Roswell soundtrack back in this reboot version... Dido's song just popped out !"

However, some fans are optimistic about the reboot as this time the show is based on the book. A fan stated, "From what I've seen this reboot of the show is supposed to be more like the books, which the original show was not. I liked the original show but it was vastly different from the books. For instance, in the books, Tess was not in it." While some just seem to have a mixed emotion about the entire reboot, " I don't know how I feel about this... mixed emotions... I loved the original. I even have the DVDs on the season." 'Roswell: New Mexico' will begin airing on January 15, 2019, at 9 p.m. EST, on the CW.
