LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Former porn star Ronald 'Ron' Jeremy, 69, who was accused of sexual assaults in 2020, has been deemed unfit to stand trial by a Los Angeles court in February 2023. In the wake of the same, Jeremy's sister, Susan Billotte, filed for a conservatorship for treating his dementia.

Billotte filed a petition on March 2 in Los Angeles court to appoint attorney Ellen Finkelberg, a California Trusts and Wills lawyer, to be Jeremy’s conservator and take decisions about the former adult star’s health and finances. The petition reads, “Susan Billotte, sister of Ronald Jeremy Hyatt, hereby nominates Ellen S. Finkelberg to act as Temporary and Permanent Conservator of the Person and Estate of Ronald Jeremy Hyatt.”

The petition also included, “The proposed conservatee’s criminal attorneys were given POA for his finances. It’s proposed that it’s in the conservatee’s best interest that his assets be handled by a conservator. Due to the pending transfer to a state hospital, it is urgent that a conservatorship be established so that Petitioner can have the authority to place the proposed conservatee in a privately-secured perimeter facility specializing in the treatment of dementia," reported The Blast.

Why is Ron Jeremy's sister asking for a conservator?

As it is mentioned in the petition, the former porn star, whose claim to fame was in the 1970s, when he starred in more than 2000 adult movies, is diagnosed with “symptoms of Lewy body dementia” for which he “has been found incompetent to stand trial in a criminal case." It further continues, “He is unable to express a preference of the proposed conservatee concerning the appointment of any temporary conservator proposed in this petition.”

As per Jeremy’s doctor, he “does not have issues related to mood. [His current] deficits are neurocognitive rather than psychiatric.” The physician further added, “[The] patient has a major neurocognitive disorder that is degenerative and progressively getting worse,” as per the outlet.

While the character and the estimated value of the property of Jeremy’s estate are allegedly $635,000, the real worth of his property is estimated to be valued at $2.8 million.

What is Jeremy accused of?

Jeremy has been kept in prison since he was arrested in 2020. Los Angeles District Attorney’s office in August 2021 announced Jeremy has been convicted of 30 sexual crimes. At least 21 women, whose ages ranged from 15 to 51, brought in the charges against Jeremy. He was charged for his alleged crimes over a 23-year span. The charges include 12 attempts of forcible rape, seven times trying to forcibly copulate orally, six numbers of sexual battery by restraint, four attempts of sexual penetration by a foreign object, sexual penetration of a person who is unconscious or asleep twice, and once of committing a lewd act upon a child under the age of 14 or 15, forceful sodomy and intention to commit rape. He initially pleaded not guilty to the alleged charges.

Other cases of stars in conservatorship

Britney Spears has been under the conservatorship of her father, Jamie Spears, since 2008 which finally ended in November 2021. The singer, who has decried the conservatorship to be abusive and exploitative, has been granted freedom after the singer filed a petition to end the abusive conservatorship and worldwide mass protest, #FreeBritney.
