Robert Neal Abney: Ex breaks into Indiana woman's house and assaults man sleeping in her bed with a hatchet
HENDRICKS COUNTY, INDIANA: Robert Neal Abney, 42, has been arrested for allegedly breaking into his ex girlfriend’s home and assaulting the man he found in her bed with a hatchet. The Indiana man was arrested on Saturday, February 18, and charged with attempted murder and breaking and entering a residential dwelling. Law and Crime reports that the accused had gone over to his ex girlfriend’s place after she remained unavailable on the phone. “He said she had previously gotten into it with people that wanted to hurt her,” the case documents said.
The man who was at the woman’s house stated that while he did not live at the home, he was apparently staying there because the woman had been afraid of the accused. The woman had also called 911 for help as Abney forcefully entered into the premises. “Please f*****g god,” she said. “Please get here.” She said she was going to die and needed to hide and that 'my ex just kicked in my window and hit somebody in the head with a hatchet.”

Came through window ‘like a spider monkey’
Right after the call, the woman went ahead and hid in her closet as she heard someone call out her name and knock on the window. “She said he kicked in her window and came through it like a ‘spider monkey,'” the affidavit said. Abney then went on to switch on the light after he made it into the home. “I heard smack,” she said, “with that f*****g hatchet.”
The man who had been in the woman’s bed had been sleeping soundly when he was attacked. Interestingly, Abney had said he had come to find another man in “my” bed, while the woman says Abney was only staying at the home from time to time. “Yes, he was in my bed,” Abney allegedly said, “Laying there naked with my girl.” Abney had also called his father over the phone in front of the investigators, where he allegedly said that the hatchet was right next to the bed and that “I smacked him in the side of the head with it, I guess.”
‘Going to kill him’
“He didn’t recall hearing anything, but he felt pain on the left side of his head,” the affidavit stated about the victim. “He jumped up onto the bed. He said that Abney was standing in the hallway saying he was going to kill him.” The victim’s injuries required that he get an X-ray done to confirm the extent of the damage, along with staples as well.
