'Riverdale' Season 5: From Dark Betty to Penelope Blossom, the villains who could make show a hit
Spoilers for 'Riverdale'
Season 4 of The CW hit show 'Riverdale' packed a lot of drama into an intense run. It showcased emotional goodbyes with the death of Archie Andrew's (KJ Apa) father Fred Andrews (Luke Perry), family troubles with the entering of Fred’s brother Frank and Veronica Lodge's (Camila Mendes) neverending competition with her father Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos) and half-sister Hermosa. It also showcased murderous rage with Jughead Jones's (Cole Sprouse) grandfather, the author of a series of teen detective novels called 'The Baxter Brothers', there were fake funerals with Jughead pretending to be dead, weird hobbies with Kevin (Casey Cott) tickle scheme and of course last, but not least, cheating, with Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart), who is clearly with Jughead, kissing Archie. In the midst of all this inventive and creative unfolding that is the town of Riverdale's mess, there was still one last mystery that hadn't been solved. Who on earth was sending the voyeuristic videotapes to the gang's houses? The tapes featured the hours of video of the gang's home along with discretions the town has been through such as the one Jughead received where a disguised Betty hits him with a rock.
Here are the 5 villains (villainous teams) that we think are behind the tapes and if so, could make the upcoming Season 5 a bigger hit.
Donna and Brett
Ah, the Stonewall Prep killers - that's the best way to describe these two. Their plan to murder people was foiled by Jughead and Betty and not to mention Jughead pretended to be dead just so they could be caught. It was an elaborate plan, that got fans wondering if we lost Jughead in Season 4. There is also the fact that Donna and Brett's choice of blackmail, is taping people in illicit acts so, it's not a far call from them. The tapes also came into the storyline when Jughead first started to attend Stonewall. Even though it seems that Donna packer her bags, she could very well be back. We have to say though, that this wouldn't be a surprising element, but if they are the ones behind the tapes, it means they are in 'Riverdale'. That, in itself, could make the season a better one. We have to say, that was one of the best narratives in Season 4.
We already know that Bret and Donna like to tape people for blackmail and have a stack of VHS tapes at their disposal. Plus, they both really despise Betty and Jughead and the tapes originally began showing up while Jughead was going to Stonewall. Perhaps Bret and Donna are still messing with him.
Chic and Charles
Charles Smith (Wyatt Nash) and Chic are working together, and we still don't know anything about it. With no information given, it's not a huge leap to think that they could be behind the tapes. Charles is an FBI agent and is also close to Betty, so he would know all the ins and outs of how the gang works and what they had done behind the backs of the police. Especially when it came to Jughead pretending he was dead. We also know that Charles was already listening to phone calls between Betty and Jughead as well. Not to mention, since it's because of the gang that Chic is in jail, he has a huge motive to make sure they all pay. Also, even though Chic is behind bars, Charles has all the equipment necessary to make voyeuristic tapes. Even though the fact that Chic and Charles have something going on isn't new, it would be a surprise to see if they were the villains behind the tapes - more importantly, how on earth would they have pulled it off?
Dark Betty
Dark Betty (even though a long shot) could be behind all of this. We might have to think that Evelyn Evernever (Zoé De Grand Maison) from the farm, could be involved when it comes to hypnotizing Betty. We had earlier reported that Betty is the perfect criminal, who not only has a criminal father but seems to be interested in dark things. She definitely has a bone to pick with 'Riverdale' and most definitely has unresolved issues when it comes to her dark self. To her, the indiscretions and murderous town seem normal and she feels at home. While there is no solid proof as to why she would do this, there is no telling what she could do if she was hypnotized.
Jellybean Jones
Jellybean (Trinity Likins) has been almost a shadow when it comes to the series, appearing now and then in scenes when the Jones family features. She is the little sister of Jughead and has gone through countless traumas in her life. After being separated from her father and brother for years, she comes back to 'Riverdale' only to find out the mess that it is. Her father was once the Serpent King, so was her brother and her mother was a drug lord - that's a lot for a young girl to take. She might also resent Riverdale and blame it for all the things that have happened with her family and could be behind the tapes. This would be an interesting addition as a villain, because no one would suspect the sweetfaced girl, definitely not her brother.
Penelope Blossom
If you've been following the series, one of the biggest narratives/plotlines to remember had to be the jingle-jangle and Gargoyle King storyline. We found that while Betty's psychotic father, Hal Cooper (Lochlyn Munro) and Chic (Hart Denton) were the killers in town, it was Cheryl Blossom's mother (Madelaine Petsch), Penelope Blossom (Nathalie Boltt) who orchestrated the entire cult following. She had done so because she had not forgiven the town after she was adopted as a child bride for Clifford. Her murderous scheme took so long to unfold and she's always hated the town and what it produces, so we wonder that even though she's quiet and being complacent, could she be cooking up trouble yet again? It would be kind of great if she was the villain behind all of this because it took so long to take her down. Not to mention Chic is in jail and Hal is dead. So, if she were to come back as a villain, it would be disastrous for the gang.
