During the course of its run, ‘Riverdale’ has given us some really iconic characters. One character that became a fan favorite was Josie McCoy. Josie was the lead singer of the band ‘Josie and the Pussycats’ and left ‘Riverdale’ to pursue a solo singing career. The character hasn’t been seen since Season 4 and fans have been urging the makers for her return.

It seems, the makers have heard their voices and are planning to bring Josie on the show once again.

When will Josie return to ‘Riverdale’?

According to recent developments, the character will soon be making an appearance on the show and it will surely leave everyone stunned. Apart from being the lead singer of the band, Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray) was also the daughter of former Mayor Sierra McCoy (Robin Givens) before Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos) took over the job.

The news of her return was confirmed on social media by showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. He confirmed that Josie will be returning to the show. He did not just share the news of Josie’s return, but he also announced that the band ‘Josie and the Pussycats’ will also be making an appearance in the upcoming episodes of Season 5.

“It's official. The Pussycats are coming back to Riverdale,” he simply captioned the photo. Along with the caption, Aguirre-Sacasa posted a photograph of an episode script entitled Chapter Ninety-One: The Return of the Pussycats.

However, it remains to be seen how soon she makes an entry. Her return will be really impactful and the character will be pleasantly surprised to see her. They haven’t seen her since Season 4 and a lot has changed after her exit.

Why did Josie leave the show?

The character left ‘Riverdale’ during the fourth season and wanted to make a solo singing career. She went on a tour with her musician dad. Her story did not end there because she went on to star in The CW’s ‘Katy Keene’, which was a ‘Riverdale’ spin-off. Josie continued focusing on her music in New York City with her new friends by her side who all wanted to make it big in the music business.

However, the spin-off series got canceled after one season. So, it makes sense that the makers have decided to bring her back on the show.

Before leaving Riverdale, she was in a brief relationship with Archie. They struck a chord during the musical sessions and made things official instantly. The relationship came to an end when she left with her dad. It will be interesting to see if Josie tries to reunite with Archie once again.

‘Riverdale’ Season 5 returns with a new episode every Wednesday on The CW.
