'Riverdale' Season 4 Episode 12: Betty and Alice team up to unravel the secrets of Stonewall Prep and Bret
Spoiler alert for 'Riverdale' Season 4 Episode 12 'Chapter Sixty-Nine: Men of Honor'
This episode was, of course, the much-anticipated Katy Keene-meets-Riverdale showdown, but the character's storylines seem to have taken more of the spotlight.
One branch of the narrative that did stand out though, was the fact that Alice Cooper (Mädchen Amick) and her daughter Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) joined hands to uncover the murky secrets of Stonewall Prep and enemy #1 at the moment Bret Wallis (Sean Depner). The relationship between Alice and Betty has always been shaky, but this episode sees their bonding blooming.
In the previous episode, 'Quiz Show', Riverdale's win at the battle of intellectual wits was revoked when they accused her of cheating. Truth was, it was Alice trying to help Betty out and Betty didn't actually end up cheating. Although in this episode, Alice tries to fix her mistake, Mr Honey (Kerr Smith), Riverdale High principal, doesn't believe her.
Betty finds out that she is suspended for a week, banned from senior prom and stripped of her position as 'The Blue and Gold' editor-in-chief because of Bret, who has now decided to file a restraining order against the snoopy Cooper. Knowing that Bret has too many grey areas in his robust personality, Betty takes down the "murder board" she had for Mr Rupert Chipping (Sam Witwer), a teacher from Stonewall Prep that "committed suicide."
All we know is that Chipping wished he never got the contract to the Baxter Brothers franchise, so why would he kill himself when he was on the last book?
Deciding to move together on this, the Cooper mother-daughter duo sat down with Chipping's widow who has a lot of questions. Chipping's wife also doesn't believe Donna Sweett (Sarah Desjardins), a student at Stonewall Prep, who claimed to have had an affair with Chipping. She gives the Coopers a box of her husband's personal things to see if that could help with the investigation. The duo find army pamphlets in the box and that takes them to Marmaduke "Moose" Mason (Cody Kearsley)
Moose knows Bret and reveals to Betty and Alice that Chipping recruited Moose to play football for Stonewall Prep. He was also the one that pushed Moose out of the school when he found that Bret had a videotape of Moose having sex with a classmate in their dorm, adding to his "collection." They head over to Bret's room in the dorm to find any evidence only to be caught by the predator himself. After being questioned, Bret offers nothing but denial and a warning to leave.
The investigation then moves to the school's basement where the Quill and Skull meetings are held. Both Jughead Jones and Bret are part of this secret society. After yet again being caught my Bret, she reveals that all she found was tapes of Quill and Skull member’s initiation testimony where they tell secrets to prove loyalty and trust. Sneaking out Donna's copy, they find out that her confession is similar to the one she gave Betty about her alleged affair with Mr Chipping, except in this tape, it was with a different teacher. The focus then switches to Donna. Has Betty found a new enemy?
The season premiere of 'Katy Keene' is set to debut on Thursday, February 6, 2020, at 8 pm EST on The CW.
'Riverdale' airs Wednesdays at 8 pm EST on The CW.
