'Ripley' Episode 8 Takeaway: Tom Ripley's criminal scheme finds itself on the brink of exposure
Contains heavy spoilers for 'Ripley'
ROME, ITALY: 'Ripley', streaming on Netflix, has engrossed the viewers with its black and white cinematography and nail-biting thrill.
The psychological thriller series revolves around Tom Ripley (Andrew Scott), a con man turned serial killer, who is on the run to get away with the murders of Dickie Greenleaf (Johnny Flynn) and Freddie Miles (Eliot Sumner).
Ripley constantly moves from one hotel to another and travels between different cities, all while assuming the identity of Dickie, whom he has killed.
Meanwhile, he has misguided the cops into believing that Dickie is the culprit in the murder of Freddie Miles, and has now "disappeared" to evade the investigation.
Inspector Pietro Ravini makes a shocking discovery in 'Ripley' Episode 8
Tom Ripley manages to evade justice using his intelligence and con skills. In 'Ripley' Episode 8, he finally gives up Dickie's identity and resumes his own.
Using the enormous money he siphoned from Dickie's trust, he takes up a big mansion in Venice and lives the luxurious life he has always desired.
Everything goes according to his plan, leading everyone to believe that Dickie died by suicide, but then the unexpected happens.
As the case gets closed, and 'Ripley' reaches its concluding scene, Inspector Pietro Ravini (Maurizio Lombardi) receives a copy of Marge Sherwood's (Dakota Fanning) book that she has written about her time with Dickie in Italy.
As he opens the book, he finds Dickie's photo printed on it and is taken aback to see that he is not the one with whom he interacted during his investigation.
Does Tom Ripley get caught in Netflix's 'Ripley'?
The series concludes with a suspenseful cliffhanger, as Tom Ripley manages to escape. Meanwhile, catching him seems more difficult, especially when he has forged another identity under the name of Timothy Fanshaw.
For the longest time, Ripley managed to fool the authorities by disguising himself as Dickie, and with him already a step ahead of the cops, he is assumed to have evaded justice.
Netflix's 'Ripley' is a limited series without any planned sequels. Nonetheless, if there would be one, it would be intriguing to witness how Ripley maneuvers through future challenges, especially with Inspector Ravini becoming suspicious of foul play.
