‘Real Housewives of Orange County’: Why Kelly Dodd might be the most misunderstood housewife on the show

RHOC housewife, Kelly Dodd isn't a bad housewife, just a misunderstood one. Here's why.

The housewives on ‘Real Housewives’ franchise have earned a reputation for being brash, loud, conniving and sometimes even gullible, but very often most of these women are mostly misunderstood. One such housewife is our very own Kelly Dodd of RHOC.

Ever since beginning her stint on the show, Kelly has been constantly hounded by nasty rumors and gossip surrounding her. It all began with a rumor that Kelly pushed her mother off a flight of stairs. Both Kelly and her mother have squashed the rumors. As soon as that rumor died down, there was another rumor spread by her then close friend and former OG housewife Vicki Gunvalson that Kelly is addicted to cocaine. This accusation played out in a big way during the reunion episode of the previous season. Ever since then Kelly and Gunvalson haven’t been on the best of terms. This season we saw a new rumor circulating about Kelly engaging in a “sex-train”, this rumor too is courtesy of Gunvalson and Tamra Judge.

When there are so many false rumors going around about you, it is only natural that you take measures to address them, sometimes it might come across as rude or aggressive, but Kelly is doing everything within her means to protect herself and her family from all the damage these rumors cause. The rumor about her drug addiction tore her family apart. Her daughter, Jolie ended up receiving tonnes of hate messages from fans about her mother. When Jolie revealed this to her mother, Kelly was obviously livid with Gunvalson and lashed out at her. All said and done nobody can accuse Kelly of being a bad mother. Kelly gets fiercely protective when it comes to her daughter Jolie.

Kelly’s habit of calling a spade a spade often doesn’t sit well with the other housewives. In a recent episode, we saw her calling out Tamra for playing on both the sides (Vicki and Kelly’s) and stirring the pot for drama. Tamra was caught blindsided and had nothing to say since she was caught in the act. In an earlier episode, we saw Kelly revealing to the world how over-the-top Shannon is. Kelly knew that Shannon overreacts to every little thing and wanted to expose it, so she tapped on a metal bowl placed over Shannon’s head. Shannon created a huge drama around it, and Kelly called her bluff.

Kelly Dodd is just a playful and often misunderstood housewife, who marches to her own drum. She doesn’t play mind games like Tamra or indulge in gossip-mongering like Vicki and Shannon, she instead spends her time and energy into building her business and spending time with her daughter.
