THE VOICE OF GOD: Chilling 911 call that led police to dead Kansas U soccer star, husband arrested
LAWRENCE, KANSAS: Former Kansas University soccer player Regan Noelle Gibbs was found dead in her Lawrence, Kansas home on Monday night in a suspected act of domestic violence. Although the cause of the death has not been revealed, the victim’s husband, Chad Joseph Marek, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder.
Authorities said Marek, 26, called 911 and said he killed his wife because “God told him to do it.” Emergency medical workers declared Gibbs, 25, dead at the scene. Marek has been charged with first-degree murder. His bond was set at $1 million when he appeared in Douglas County District Court on May 17. He will be back in court on May 24. The couple were married for less than a year — they had tied the knot in October 2021.

Marek's mental health sparked worries for police when they arrived at the couple's apartment. "There obviously are some preliminary indicators that this person wasn’t mentally stable," Lawrence Police Chief Rich Lockhart said. "We call it being in psychosis, so obviously, that is something we will be investigating as well as this case continues."
From 2015 until 2018, Gibbs was a goalkeeper for the Kansas Jayhawks soccer team. Mark Francis, the head coach of the Kansas Jayhawks soccer team, paid tribute to his former player, calling her a "tremendous teammate."
In a statement, Francis stated, "Our soccer program is heartbroken to hear about the tragic loss of Regan. She was a tremendous teammate and young woman, and touched so many during her time at Kansas. Regan will always be remembered for the impact she had both on and off the field. We share our condolences to her family, friends and teammates during this difficult time."

"We are devastated to hear about the loss of former KU student-athlete Regan Gibbs," KU Director of Athletics Travis Goff stated. "Our KU family sends our love, support and prayers to Regan's family, friends and former teammates as we all mourn her loss."
Gibbs' family has created a GoFundMe page, describing her as a "beautiful, kindhearted girl who loved Jesus."
"Regan was only 25, a beautiful, kindhearted girl who loved Jesus and people. She had a big heart for the homeless and hoped to go back to school to become a Physicians Assistant to do mission work. Regan had a precious soul and she was loved by everyone who knew her. She is leaving behind her mom and four younger sisters who are heartbroken by this tragic loss," the family wrote.
