'Red Penguins': Release date, plot, cast, trailer and all you need to know about the documentary
IMDb's description for 'Red Penguins' is grim and somber. "Red Penguins tells a story of capitalism and opportunism run amok - complete with gangsters, strippers and live bears serving beer on a hockey rink in Moscow," the description reads. And while it might sound like the plot of an episode straight out of 'Peaky Blinders', the real story is far less dramatized or criminal. It's the chronicling of the Pittsburgh Penguins, forming a partnership with the Russian national hockey team after the fall of the Soviet Union. Here's all you need to know about it!

Initially released all the way back n September 5, 2019, the fascinating retelling of events arrives this August 4, only on VoD.
Plot
Shortly after the collapse of the Soviet Union," details the official synopsis, "the Pittsburgh Penguins and the famed Red Army hockey team formed a joint-venture that showed anything was possible in the new Russia. Eccentric marketing whiz, Steve Warshaw, is sent to Russia and tasked to transform team into the greatest show in Moscow. He takes the viewer on a bizarre journey highlighting a pivotal moment in the US. Russian relations in a lawless era when oligarchs made their fortunes and multiple murders went unsolved.
Cast
Howard Baldwin, a producer most widely known for 'Ray' (2004), 'Sahara' (2005) and 'Death Sentence' (2007), can be seen in the film alongside Steven Warshaw and Viktor Tikhonov, the legendary Russian ice hockey coach, who led Soviet Union team to several Olympic and World Championship gold medals.

'Red Penguins' is written and directed both by Gabe Polsky. The director and producer is famous for 'Genius' (2017), 'Red Army' (2014) and 'In Search of Greatness' (2018).
