'Ray Donovan' will soon be back with Season 7, and with it, we get to see a new and improved Ray (Liev Schreiber) — a Ray who is trying to be a good human, a good father, and make amends for the life he has led this far.

And, even as sappy as it sounds for a show like 'Ray Donovan', the Showtimes series has been successful in bringing about this transition within the show without making it seem mainstream or alien. Everything that has happened in Ray's life leads him to therapy and we see that he is still a regular.

Despite doing the most regrettable things, we were able to root for Ray and now that he is on a path of redemption, we continue to do it. Season 7, more than ever before, will be about how a person is affected because of being abused in childhood.

Ray's conversations with Dr. Amiot (Alan Alda), who is a fixture in the upcoming season, will also dig up a lot of pain from the past, especially involving his father, Mickey (Jon Voight).

At his core, Ray is a family man, and he is trying really hard to be the man his family needs him to be, and for that, he needs to come to terms with every horrible thing that has happened in life, and forgive his father as well.

The fixer is attempting to fix his own life for a change and the skeletons in the family closet are aplenty. Regardless, we see Ray employing his perseverance to become a better human, and in the trailer for the upcoming season, we see him punching a man and later going back to apologize for not "handling that very well."

However, there are still a lot of outside forces that compel Ray to go back to his old habits, like dealing with NYC mayor Ed Feratti (Zach Grenier), who Ray really does not like. We do know that he is going to be a big part of Season 7, regardless.

It is also highly likely that working with Feratti is going to dig up some painful memories of his father, even as he tries to find a balance between work and mental health.

We are definitely excited to see Ray Donovan 2.0, when 'Ray Donovan' premieres with Season 7 Episode 1, titled 'Faith. Hope. Love. Luck.' on Sunday, November 17, on Showtime.
