Rashida Tlaib defends saying ‘impeach the motherf*cker’ over Trump's 'offenses' in 2019: 'I was right'

'It’s a crooked billionaire running his businesses out of the White House. He was absolutely committing impeachable offenses,' Tlaib said on MSNBC’s ‘All In’

Freshman Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib has defended an earlier remark she made with regard to former President Donald Trump. The 44-year-old was reacting to Trump’s legal team showing videos during the Senate impeachment proceedings of her on Tuesday, February 9. In the clip from 2019, she was shown telling Congress to “impeach the motherf*cker” even before the Capitol building riots happened on January 6.

Justifying her remark, Tlaib said on MSNBC’s ‘All In’: “I mean, I was right. This is a person that’s been lawless. Not only that, it’s a crooked billionaire running his businesses out of the White House. He was absolutely committing impeachable offenses. You know, this primary impeachment that you see before the Senate right now to convict him is for the violence on January 6, but for many of us, especially here in my district, we have saw [sic] that it was extremely corrupted that they were putting the Trump Organization first. They were putting the for-profit organization, his businesses, before the people's business and making sure that, again, folks, we’re staying at the Trump Hotel to do all this.”

She continued, “And again, many of us didn’t wait for him to bribe a foreign government, nor did we wait in the 13th congressional district for a white supremacy attack on our capital. We knew what he was about, and we called him out on it from day one”, before adding, “We need to use every resource possible and convict this president, again, for the violence that he caused.”

Twitter was buzzing after Tlaib’s statement as one user commented, “Notice how the Dems have never once put out a statement about the heinous behaviors & clear antisemitism of Ilhan Omar, AOC, and Rashida Tlaib. (who said ‘let’s impeach this motherf*cker’ as 1st words as congresswoman.) This is why Republicans lose. We accommodate their evil.” The second user tweeted, “Now you go and impeach that motherf*cker! As the honorable congresswoman Rashida Tlaib would say. So that he could never ever again hold public office in.” “Remember when there was such a fuss over @RashidaTlaib saying, “impeach the motherf*cker” and then the House did it twice #icon,” the third user noted.

The fourth user said, “Rep. @RashidaTlaib once said of US President Donald Trump, “We’re gonna impeach the motherf*cker.” I wonder if she ever imagined impeaching him twice.” While the fifth one added: “I wasn’t on board to impeach for that phone call with 2 weeks left. But what he incited on the 6th I’m all for it, even if there’s only 2 hours left. Like Rashida Tlaib said Impeach the motherf*cker!”

Another user remarked, “As you used to say ‘it's time that we impeach that motherf!cker.’ Honestly, we should unless we want to tell aspiring GOP POTUS that we have no problem with you getting a mob to take over the national capital.” “I use to bash @RashidaTlaib for saying "impeach the motherf*cker" but now after COVID, the non-answer to a peaceful transition, the NYT article, and the fact that he just is stupid... I think senseable PEOPLE, not just left or right, should impeach the motherf*cker,” the seventh stated.
