'Time to protect children': Calls to boycott American Girl grow as parents warned of gender transition book
MANHATTAN, NEW YORK CITY: American Girl's recent book, 'A Smart Girl's Guide: Body Image,' written by its resident author Mel Hammond ran into controversy after it allegedly pushed the readers to change their genders, allegedly without their guardian's blessings. The book has led to several consumers calling to boycott the brand.
The book is targeted at girls between the age group of 3 to 12. According to Fox News, one of the experts, Cat Cattinson, a detransitioner claimed, "We should instead strive to convey to young girls is that they can be whatever kind of girls they want to be in the bodies they have."

The detransitioner who also lost her singing voice after receiving "gender-affirming" treatment, emphasized, "that a girl can be born into the wrong body and need drugs or surgery to be herself contradicts the message of the body acceptance movement."
Another expert, Kelsey Bolar, Senior Policy Analyst, stated, "American Girl is actively promoting the idea to children that puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and irreversible surgeries are the solution to any body image issues they face. For those who don’t understand how harmful these so-called ‘treatments’ are, listen to the many stories from detransitioners documenting the lifelong complications they now face. It’s a shame that a classic American company would betray parents with this message."
Luka Hein, another detransitioner, claimed the book to be "really sad." She said she had an American Girl book when she was younger, titled "The Care & Keeping of You," which included "age appropriate information regarding development and taking care of the body you have." She also added that she was "once seemingly prided itself on making sure girls were able to take care of and love their bodies for what they are, and build their confidence about being a young girl" Further she said, "Gender ideology has become increasingly predatory towards young girls' moments of discomfort during puberty, and books like that are only adding to the predatory nature of that."
Meanwhile, another expert, Angela L Morabito, spokesperson for the Defense of Freedom Institute, said, "Americans don't want companies or schools pushing gender ideology on kids." She added, "The brand became a phenomenon by celebrating American womanhood throughout history," she said. "But now, it has moved from historical fiction to biological fantasy. Medical intervention in minors is far from the risk-free process the book describes."
'Protect your daughters by avoiding this company'
The Internet quickly reacted to the content of the new book. Editor-in-chief of 'The Federalist,' Mollie Hemingway claimed, "Parents should know that American Girl guide books — which used to be pretty good — now promote dangerous gender ideology to little girls as young as 3. If you love your daughters, protect your daughters by avoiding this company." A user added, "It’s time for the parents and the American people to boycott American Girl. On there book for gender change starting with children at the age of 3 years old. Another disgusting woke company."
Another user claimed, "@American_Girl you want to encourage abusing children and indoctrination of children. There should be a boycott on you and @Mattel." A tweet read, "Any store that sells these products should be boycotted. These kind of things are maddening Unless you’re a groomer." Another claimed, "Let me see a shelf of toys like this at my local store ima knock it down." A tweet then stated, "@American_Girl shame shame on you and you’re new gender changing tips. My children had every doll and the accessories. I have grandchildren now and I will never purchase an American Girl doll for them. You will find I will be one of many customers that will boycott you."
A user explained, "American girl books may harm your child. Read before you buy. If dangerous in-your opinion boycott stores selling. 3 yr olds too young to read about gender suppression without parent knowledge. My opinion." A user wrote, "Time to boycott American Girl and all their products. Time to protect children. There are other companies that deserve your patronage. American Girl is not one of them." "Boycott American Girl. Send all their stuff back. Who is running these companies?," claimed a user.
