Spoilers for Season 2 Episode 10 'Operation Mainbrace'

Tonight's Episode 10 of 'Project Blue Book' Season 2 marked the season finale for what was an extremely fitting second run after a stellar debut one in 2019. Dr J Allen Hynek and Captain Michael Quinn maintained their trust, faith and solidarity in each other right until the very end.

We saw Quinn uncharacteristically turn into a believer of lives beyond humans and Hynek come unhinged in the agony of losing his partner to a rogue admiral's wishes.

But even though we pretty much witnessed Quinn's submarine get trapped in collateral damage as the US Navy charged at the "Russians" and later even saw General Hugh Valentine present General James Harding with Quinn's badge and dog tags, it's a little too hard to digest that he's gone.

Just like that. Call it denial or whatever you may, but fans' conviction might rival Hynek's when it comes to Quinn's mortal status — as reactions spill on social media.

After Quinn's submarine was believed to have blown up in the charges, Hynek and the Admiral returned to the deck to observe SONAR data that saw Quinn's submarine along with the several other blinding blue unidentified sources of light simply vanish into thin air.

What looked like a swarm of ships surrounding the source of all that bioluminescence, was labeled as a humpback whale feeding off the submerged plankton on the show to explain away Quinn's mysterious "death".

However, Hynek knows it's something more than that and turns into a frenzied conspiracist to figure out where those lights took Quinn. His quest to seek his long time partner out saw Hynek reach out to the infamous man in black, William, and later travel aboard a ship to a giant iceberg in the extreme northern region of the world.

While all of this could just be another one of Hynek's false leads — the kind he and Quinn have encountered aplenty through the course of their investigation, the open-ended finale offered closure to very few fans.

Noting how the entire storyline of the episode titled 'Operation Mainbrace' was leading up to a giant set up with broken hearts at the end of the tunnel, a fan simply stated on Twitter that the ending made them need a drink. "I need a drink, how can you leave it at that?" shared a fan.

Another one chimed in writing: "I need a drink if Quinn doesn't get out of this. No, I'll need one anyway." Another frenzied fan wrote to series creator David O'Leary and straight-up asked: "Please tell me you’re not ending it how I think you’re going to end it?!?!"

Fans also compared the entire sequence leading up to the ending scene as an elaborate rollercoaster ride, with one of them writing: "You've outdone yourselves this time! This episode has everything. What a roller coaster ride!"

Another shared similar opinions, adding how desperately they need a conclusion. "Now that my heart has been shattered and I’ve been on an emotional roller coaster, I need to see a conclusion to this all, please," begged the fan in a tweet to the creator.

Taking into consideration all the pleads and petitions fans are requesting for a third season, O'Leary himself tweeted out in support of the same, writing: "#ProjectBlueBook fans, if you want a Season 3, please let @History and @HistoryBlueBook know how you feel! We want one too! Please spread the word far and wide about the show. It all helps. You guys are the best. Truly. Thank you. #RenewBlueBook."
