'Prodigal Son' fans expect Ainsley to turn into a negative character as she seems keen to know more about her serial killer dad

Even as Malcolm is hot on the trail for the truth, fans are theorizing that his younger sister Ainsley (Halston Sage) is going over to the dark side pretty soon. In fact, many are already thinking that she might be on the dark side.

Spoilers ahead for Episode 3 'Fear Response' of 'Prodigal Son'

At the moment, the biggest mystery on Fox thriller 'Prodigal Son' is knowing exactly how involved Malcolm Bright's (Tom Payne) mother Jessica Whitly (Bellamy Young) was in his father's killing spree.

Dr Martin Whitly (Michael Sheen) aka The Surgeon has killed at least 23 people using his medical expertise.

Towards the end of the last episode, it was revealed that Bright's mother had an inkling, if nothing else, about her husband's bloodthirsty nature.

Bright makes the use of chloroform to revive the memories of the night that he found the girl in the box. He discovers that his mother warned him that night about the dangerous nature of his father and to keep away from his things.

Following this, as Malcolm had theorized, his father had used chloroform to dissociate his son from the memory of seeing the girl in the box

Even as Malcolm is hot on the trail for the truth, fans are theorizing that his younger sister Ainsley (Halston Sage) is going over to the dark side pretty soon. In fact, many are already thinking that she might be on the dark side.

Ainsley was four-years-old when Dr Whitly was arrested for his crimes. She also expresses that she didn't really know who her father was, that all she knows is what her mother has warned her about him.

Through this, Ainsley's keen interest in her father is shown. And is exactly what got a fan theorizing that her character might take a surprise turn.

"Dr Whitley said something along the lines of the brain of a 3-year-old is formed well enough? Ainsley says she knew her dad until she was 4. Could that be a clue that maybe she turns out to be the one who's dangerous, her mom even said she was perfect at one point," (sic) said a fan.

"Not meaning that she killed people when she was little, I mean maybe she starts later to help her ratings by being the first on the scene," the fan theorized.

Fans suggest that if it hasn't happened yet, there are chances that Ainsley will follow in the footsteps of her father and turn into a conniving killer.

"I do think we’re going to be pushed to believe that Malcolm is a killer/has murderous tendencies, but have Ainsley turn out to be the kid who actually follows in Martin’s footsteps," theorized another fan.

Thing is, however, we have seen very little of Ainsley to know more. While she seems calm and collected and almost too perfect (like her mother pointed out), it remains to be seen how much of an impact The Surgeon and his persona have had on her.

"I've thought Ainsley is a secret sociopath since the first episode. There’s just something off about the way she interacts with everyone else," believes a fan.

Others think the makers could go creative with the big reveal that 'Prodigal Son' is aiming at. "I think a solid TV bait-and-switch would be to convince the audience the mom is a killer and then have the midseason reveal be that she was just covering for her daughter," said one fan.

However, this mystery could be one for the long run considering the show will be getting a 22-episode long season one. 'Prodigal Son' airs on Mondays at 9 PM ET/PT.
