Prince Philip was transferred to St. Bartholomew’s hospital in London on March 1, almost two weeks after he was admitted to King Edward VII’s hospital, where he was admitted as a “precautionary measure”, on 16 February. Buckingham Palace has announced that the 99-year-old Prince Philip required observation for an existing heart condition, reports said. However, several online trolls blamed Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s forthcoming Oprah Winfrey interview for Philip’s latest health complications.

In 2011, Philip underwent an angioplasty treatment where a stent was fitted following a blocked coronary artery. As per The Guardian, it is unknown if Philip’s earlier admission to King Edward VII’s hospital was a result of this underlying heart-related condition or unrelated. The only detail provided to the media was that he was previously treated for a non-Covid-19 related infection. The medical staff revealed that Philip, who turns 100 in June, was responding well to medication.

Meghan and Harry’s Oprah Interview

The first released clips from the Sussexes' sit-down interview with Oprah reveals how Harry compared his “unbelievably tough” split from the royal family to the experience of his mother, Princess Diana. In the first clips, Harry said he “can’t imagine what it must have been like” for his late mother to go through a similar experience. "I'm just really relieved and happy to be sitting here talking to you with my wife by my side," Harry says in the clip. "Because I can't begin to imagine what it must have been like for her, going through this process by herself all those years ago."

"It has been unbelievably tough for the two of us, but at least we had each other," Harry continues. In another released clip, Harry adds that his biggest concern was history repeating itself. The released clips show Winfrey asking a series of questions, though their responses have not yet been revealed. At one point, Winfrey tells the couple that they have said “some pretty shocking things here.”

'Blame Meghan Markle for killing'

Meghan and Harry’s Oprah interview will air on March 7 and is expected to touch on several topics, including the couple’s official departure from the royal family and the kind of support they received from other family members. However, several people on Twitter are trying to connect Prince Philip’s latest health complications with the couple’s sit-down interview with Winfrey.

One user wrote: "At the risk of major pushback, I have to say the short clips of the Meghan and Harry Oprah interview do not leave me optimistic that they will avoid their usual pitfalls. If Prince Phillip dies and they air an interview complaining about press treatment, they're gonna look awful." While another tweeted: "Can’t wait for Piers Morgan to blame Meghan Markle for killing Prince Philip".

While another user tweeted: "Wow racists are really itching to preemptively blame Meghan Markle's interview for killing Prince Philip, a 99 year old man *who isn't even dead*." Another wrote: "How could #Harry and #MeghanMarkle even think about airing their grievances about the #Royal Family when Prince Philip is so close to death? They are so hopelessly cruel, self-absorbed and tone deaf." Another user resonated similar thought: "99 y.o. Prince Philip is in hospital and may die. Suddenly everyone is arsed about optics? Were they arsed about optics when the right-wing press turned on Meghan Markle, the only black member of the Royal Family? Or when everyone’s mam and nan died cos of Boris Johnson? GTF."

One user wrote: "On the morning Prince Philip is transferred to another hospital, and fears grow about his health, Prince Harry tells the world via a carefully curated Oprah clip how ‘unbelievably tough’ life has been recently for him and Meghan. The optics suddenly aren’t great."
