The Biden administration is 'actively looking' at expanding mandatory Covid-19 testing to travelers on US domestic flights, a senior Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) official revealed on Tuesday, January 26. When asked about whether new domestic travel testing requirements might be employed, Dr Marty Cetron, director for the Division of Global Migration and Quarantine at CDC, replied that there were "conversations that are ongoing and looking at what the types and locations of testing might be... We're actively looking at it".

Last week, President Joe Biden reportedly directed US agencies to make recommendations to "impose additional public health measures for domestic travel" in addition to considering new requirements for people crossing land borders. Reuters reported that administration officials said plans could include requiring negative Covid-19 tests before flying domestically.

"We realize that there's been a dramatic evolution and increase in both testing platforms and testing capacity. I think this is a really important part of our toolkit to combat this pandemic," Cetron reportedly said according to a report in DailyMail. Meanwhile, on Monday, January 25, Biden reinstated Covid-19 travel restrictions on most non-US travelers from Brazil, Ireland, the United Kingdom and 26 other European countries and South Africa that allow travel across open borders in light of a variant of the virus that has spread beyond that nation. "This isn't the time to be lifting restrictions on international travel," White House press secretary Jen Psaki said.

News of the possible travel regulations has not been welcomed with warmth as many took to Twitter to share their disapproval. "It is difficult to get a rapid COVID test result for International Travel, but the Biden Administration is "actively looking" at mandating COVID-19 testing for domestic air travel. The mandate will be forced. No discussion. Period, as Joe would say," one user shared.

Mike Detmer, who sells new and used cars at a Fowlerville car dealership, who recently issued a press release saying he is again seeking the Republican nomination to challenge Congresswoman Slotkin in 2022, took to Twitter to slam Biden, calling to anti-vaxxers. "The Biden regime has announced that they are "Actively Looking" at mandating COVID-19 testing for domestic air travel. That's just a precursor to "Actively Looking" at mandated vaccinations! Don't doubt me on this."

"Less than a week in office and he is destroying America and people's lives. Transgenders in whatever rr they choose and the military, job losses and now this. He'll probably start requiring covid19 vaccines before air travel. Biden is dangerous  try and mess with Texas!" another user added.

Biden's plans are also a concern for airline officials who worry that new requirements could curtail already weak demand for air travel. The CDC said Sunday it would not grant waivers to exempt travelers from some countries with limited testing capacity. Numerous US airlines had sought waivers. But many, presumably Trump supporters, seem to lose the point. "Biden requires all air travel passengers to get a #COVID19 negative test before flying. What about the hoards of illegal immigrants marching to our borders? #CaravanaMigrante2021 #ImpeachBiden #Resist #AmericaFirst #MAGA" one tweeted. "I’m sure my Florida vacation will be cancelled bc of this Scrooge," another added.
