Former President Barack Obama sat down for an interview with CBS' Scott Pelley on '60 Minutes' sparking both praise and outrage on Twitter. MEAWW had earlier reported the interview was about Obama’s highly-anticipated upcoming book, ‘A Promised Land’. The book will throw light on the former president’s foray into politics, his 2008 election win, and shall end with the death of terrorist Osama bin Laden in 2011. And now, the former president appears in his first interview about his new book 'A Promised Land' which airs on Sunday on '60 Minutes'.

One of the most discussed topics in the US right now is whether Donald Trump will concede or not. He has been adamant about pursuing legal steps to challenge the result of the election. So, it was expected that Obama will be asked about that. When asked what his advice will be to Trump at this moment, Obama said, “They are temporary occupants of the office, by design. And when your time is up then it is your job to put the country first and think beyond your own ego, and your own interests, and your own disappointments.” He added, “My advice to President Trump is, if you want at this late stage in the game to be remembered as somebody who put country first, it's time for you to do the same thing.” ‘60 Minutes’ had given viewers a sneak peek of the interview on Thursday, November 12, by posting Obama’s clip. The clip was captioned as, “Barack Obama tells Scott Pelley Republicans who "go along with" the President’s claims of election fraud put democracy on "a dangerous path".

Obama’s interview, as expected, was discussed on Twitter as well. One said, “Trump is going to hate Obama's new #60Minutes interview.” A user opined, “Trump's "presidency" has just emphasized to everyone how good a president Obama was. The contrast is unbelievable.” Another commented, “The ultimate put down of Donald Trump following his landslide loss - a brilliant appearance by @BarackObama on #60Minutes. It's almost as though he belongs there and knows how to handle it. And the country continues to revere him. Donnie's defeated and pissed.” A user shared, “I’m loving this interview. Odds are trump is having a massive meltdown.” Another noted, “Watching #60Minutes because I need a dose of real leadership right now. @realDonaldTrump should take notes because #BarackObamaDidEverythingBetter.”

A user questioned, "Hey @realDonaldTrump Did you watch 60 minutes? A real president was on." Another said, "Obama obliterated realDonaldTrump on #60Minutes and Mr. Trump has nothing to tweet! " Another opined, "Trump will go down as the most delusional president in American history. It’s time...."

Obama was also asked about the massive number of votes that both presidential candidates received, he said, “It tells us that we're very divided. ... it's not just the politicians now. The voters are divided.” He continued, “It has now become a contest where issues, facts, policies per se don't matter as much as identity and wanting to beat the other guy ... that's taken priority. I do think the current media environment adds to that greatly. This democracy doesn't work if we don't have an informed citizenry.” He also said, “[It] doesn't work if we don't have responsible elected officials… who are willing to call the president when he's not doing something right, call him on it.”

Pelly asked him, “You write in the book, "Our democracy seems to be teetering on the brink of a crisis." What do you mean?” Obama answered, “We have gone through a presidency that disregarded a whole host of basic institutional norms, expectations we had for a president that had been observed by Republicans and Democrats previously. And maybe most importantly, and most disconcertingly, what we've seen is what some people call truth decay, something that's been accelerated by outgoing President Trump, the sense that not only do we not have to tell the truth, but the truth doesn't even matter.”
