Perry Bell: Georgia town mayor killed in brutal motocross accident just three months after being elected
DALTON, GEORGIA: Perry Bell, who was sworn in as the mayor of White just three months ago, was killed in a horrific motocross accident on Saturday, September 24. The accident happened at the Lazy River Motocross at Dalton.
“It was an unavoidable accident. From what I understand, he was on a jump, and then he crashed on top of a jump. There was another rider right behind him and he was unable to do anything. He wasn’t able to see him to avoid it," stated Murray County Deputy Coroner Jonathan Sosebee.

Speaking to WSB radio, Interim Mayor Gary Crisp said, “They brought a helicopter in, Flew him to a trauma center but he didn’t make it. He passed away. He was just a caring person for the community and just wanted to help the people who lived here.” The other rider involved also sustained minor injuries, officials said. According to USA Today, officials are investigating the case. However, no criminal charges have been filed. The 54-year-old was just three months into his first term in office as the mayor of the town.
Anthony Morris, a resident of White, told WSB, “Everybody is hit hard from it." Morris also worked with Bell at City Hall, and said he had just spoken to him on Friday, September 23. “He’s always got a smile on his face,” Morris added.
According to DailyMail, one of the posts by his friend, Roy Cicola, stated, "RIP Perry Bell. I can’t believe I just typed that. Unfortunately a post can’t say enough to capture the essence of this man. A true friend and much more. We had the blessing to share him with many: His beloved Christina, his brother and sisters and many other people that were considered family. "
The post continued, "Emotions are raw so bear with me on this. This man is LEGEND! He accomplished so much in a short period of time. Here are some of his passions in the years we’ve known each other: base jumper, skydiver, race car driver, motorcyclist, Motocross racer, mountain bike racer, cyclist, guitarist, pianist, arborist, entrepreneur and many many more."
It further read, "His most recent accomplishment was winning the mayoral election in White, Georgia. I know if given the chance he would’ve made the town he fell in love with a better place to live for all the residents. Perry was also a mentor to many. He was in the big brother program for many years mentoring a young man and helping him to grow into a young adult."
Roy concluded the post by explaining, "Always a good listener, Perry shared advice and views on inany topics. Our nickname for him was, Giant Buddha. To not be able to talk with him is going to hurt. Brother Perry, we will honor you and continue forward carrying your fearless spirit with us. We love you brother!!!" According to USA TODAY, following Bell's death, Crisp will take over mayoral duties and it’s likely the city will hold another special election to elect a mayor.
