Pearl Jam release new single 'Dance of the Clairvoyants' from their upcoming album 'Gigaton'
The legendary hard rockers Pearl Jam have just released a new single! The five-member group, comprising Eddie Vedder, Mike McCready, Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament, and Matt Cameron had recently announced that their forthcoming album, called 'Gigaton', would be made available for public consumption on March 27, 2020, along with supporting North American tour dates to boot.
And now the beloved Seattle band's new single 'Dance of the Clairvoyants' is finally out! You can listen to it here! It features a new, funky sound for the celebrated grunge (and generally gruff-sounding) band, who appear to have aged like a fine wine on this one! Vedder, in particular, sounds a whole lot like David Byrne from the beloved art-rock band Talking Heads on this new track, with a completely reinvented and reinvigorated take on his infamously gritty vocals. The grooving bass guitar, nifty drum lines, and chiming, stabbing guitars sound amazing together and the song eventually boils down to a glorious climax that revolves around the phrase "Stand back when the spirit comes." You could be forgiven for thinking that this was a new Strokes song or a long-forgotten Talking Heads song that's just seen the light of day.
"I can’t tell you how proud I am about this group of songs, " said bassist Ament of the new album. "As you know, we took our time and that benefited us taking more chances. Sharing his thoughts on 'Dance of the Clairvoyants', Ament excitedly remarked, "'Dance' was a perfect storm of experimentation and real collaboration, mixing up the instrumentation and building a great song, and Ed writing some of my favorite words yet, around Matt’s killer drum pattern. Did I mention Mike’s insane guitar part and that Stone [Gossard] is playing bass on this one? We’ve opened some new doors creatively and that’s exciting."
There's also a music video available for 'Dance of the Clairvoyants' on the band's official YouTube channel. The video features some gorgeous shots of nature in all its glory, following a logical theme that finally comes full circle in the end - including views of the lovely Aurora Borealis, breathtaking mountain vistas, fiery volcanic magma, fluttering birds swooping past, shimmering constellations in the sky, close-up shots of rain falling on the ground, beautiful flowers blooming and busy bees buzzing around their honeycombs.
