Is Pat Robertson woke? Televangelist says Derek Chauvin should be jailed, whips out fake gun and taser on-air

'I am pro-police, folks. I think we need the police, we need their service and they do a good job. But... they cannot do this'

Evangelical leader Pat Robertson made an appearance on ‘The 700 Club,’ on Thursday, April 15, where he asserted that Derek Chauvin, accused of killing George Floyd on May 25 last year, should be put “under the jail”. He also condemned Daunte Wright's death in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, on April 11, 2021, after being allegedly shot by police officer Kimberly Potter during a traffic stop.

Robertson said, “I am pro-police, folks. I think we need the police, we need their service and they do a good job. But ... they cannot do this. Derek Chauvin, I mean, they oughta put him under the jail. He has caused so much trouble by kneeling on the [neck] of George Floyd... it's just terrible what's happening. And the police, why don't they open their eyes to what the public relations are? We've got to stop this stuff.”

The 91-year-old televangelist also dismissed former Brooklyn Center police Chief Tim Gannon's claim that Potter, accused of fatally shooting Wright, actually wanted to use her taser when she by accident took out her revolver. To prove his point, Robertson took out what looked like a fake handgun and taser, to explain the difference between the two. He noted, “There's no comparison.” The Christian Broadcasting Network founder then added: “We don't have the finest in the police department. We need police. We need them and we need to honor them and I'm all for it. But at the same time, we cannot have a bunch of clowns running around who are underpaid and who really are not the best and brightest. We've got to have the best in there.”

Robertson’s interview was shared on Twitter also as one user posted, “Who had ‘Woke Pat Robertson’ on their 2021 bingo card?” Several people reacted to Robertson’s “woke” talk with a person saying, “Pat Robertson out here trying to get back in line to go to heaven after his support of the former guy.” Another one asked, “Why is Pat Robertson sounding like a real Christian with empathy and a soul?”

A user wrote, “Whether you're black, white, or in between, we should all agree that the biggest elephant in the room, not being addressed, was mentioned at the last second in this video. “Maybe they need more training.’” The second one stated, “No training needed they are racist, looking for an opportunity to kill a black person. We have two police forces one of honest servants and the other the klan. This is not new, it’s generational.”

“Don't praise this man. He was responsible for Trump and many other things. He might have a change of heart, but it doesn't need promotion at all,” a tweet read. While another added, “There is nothing ‘woke’ about this.. Saying ‘we need the police’ while Black *and* Brown people of all ages are being killed by police on a regular basis is an immoral defense of an unjust system. How many more kids need to executed before folks realize we don’t need policing?”
