NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: A person living in New York City’s Park Slope neighborhood reportedly sent a letter to their neighbor, complaining about their “shouting and screaming” young daughters. The letter, shared on the Park Slope Moms' private Facebook page, accused the family of compromising the anonymous person’s “enjoyment and work”.

The resident started the letter by saying, “Dear neighbors, I am an editor and writer who lives across the backyard fences from you. I do most of my work in my garden. In good weather, I am out here most days for many hours. For most of my thirty years here, outside of the expected homeowner work or occasional party, I have had quiet enjoyment of my garden. But for some time now, you have compromised my enjoyment and my work on a daily basis.”

The person went on to say, “On these brownstone blocks, each of us lives within 50 feet of a dozen neighbors. It's been generally understood by most folks on this block that we owe our neighbors consideration in how we conduct ourselves when we are in our yards. Keeping intrusive sources of noise to a minimum is one way we show one another mutual respect,” before noting, “You may not have noticed, but quite often you are the only household within earshot making a considerable amount of noise outside.”

It has been said that Park Slope is one of the most affluent neighborhoods in New York City, where the average household income for people living on rent is believed to be $129,570 and for people owning homes, it's $236,720. “Park Slope is regularly referred to as one of the safest places to raise children in New York City,” a Daily Mail report said.

In the letter, the anonymous sender also reportedly gave some suggestions like, “When you are in your backyard, please be aware how easily your voices carry into your neighbors' yards,” “Parents, please lower your voices when you are playing outside with your children. I appreciate that you want to support your kids in all they do, but please refrain from whoops and shouts of encouragement,” and “Please keep loud conversations with neighbors across the fences to a minimum.”

In the concluding parts of the letter, the person stated, “I understand that kids need to be kids, but please control your daughters from shouting and screaming. There are other choices you can make to channel your children's naturally boisterous energy without the sound of it filling the backyards of others. Take them outside, go for a stroll, or take them to the playground or the park where they can be as uninhibited as they like.”

The note added, “Your family is certainly entitled to enjoy your garden; it is one of the blessings of living in Park Slope. Let's all rededicate ourselves by doing that in a way that balances our own wishes with those of our neighbors. While noise is an unavoidable aspect of urban life, I hope all of us can agree that our home is our personal refuge in the city, and that we're all entitled to its quiet enjoyment. Respectfully, your neighbors.”

The mother of the children posted the letter on social media while revealing the age of her daughters, which is two and four. She also said, “They're telling me to stop loudly praising them. Which kind of was the boost I needed today,” before adding, “I have to shout to get them to stop from hurting themselves or killing each other.”

However, surprisingly some people have actually supported the letter sender instead of the family with kids. A person commented, “It's an ok letter. Nothing wrong.” Another one said, “The letter is very polite and well written. I personally wouldn't be offended to receive it and I'd modify my and my children's behaviour.” The third one remarked, “It's about being neighborly and courteous. I tell my kids no yelling except in the park. Period.” “I agree with the neighbor. Screaming kids makes it miserable for others around you to enjoy their outside space,” the fourth one added.
