Asking guests to pay for a dinner party can be considered impolite even though hosting one can be rather expensive. Ashley Nichols, who goes by the name @ashleynichols711 on TikTok, recently shared a post about spending time with her friends at a house party. Late in March 2023, she posted a TikTok video disclosing that a friend of hers had allegedly charged her friends to attend events.

What happened during the dinner?

Ashley claimed that they were instructed to bring their own steak to the celebration, which she thought was "fair". As the story progressed, things became more fascinating. Ashley wrote on her TikTok, "[Our friend] said she would get some more food to go with the lunch."

"Then she said that she will give us the cost," the TikToker said, DISTRACTIFY reported. Later, Ashley disclosed that the friend had informed her guests via text message that each one owed $12 for the baked potato and salad they had ordered.

Ashley was shocked to learn that the side dishes for their food at a house party were for an extra price. She even revealed that her friend lives in a nice neighborhood and is rather well off to be charging her friends for a dinner party. As a joke, one of their other buddies even created a tip jar that they displayed at the residence.

TikTokers react to the incident

Many in the comments appear to share Ashley's perplexity. "If you ask someone to dinner, you supply... DINNER," one individual asserted emphatically. Another person asserts that if they are having barbecues or home parties, they never charge guests and the most they ask is that they supply their own drink.

The internet seemed to support Ashley and thinks the woman shouldn't have charged for a house party. Ashley, however, believes that by being upfront about the fact that her friend was "being cheap," she was able to deter her from attempting a similar prank in the future.
