ST LOUIS, MISSOURI: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals shockingly revealed that the "King of Beers" mutilates its iconic Budweiser Clydesdales solely for 'cosmetic reasons'. Since almost a century ago, Budweiser has used the famous Clydesdale horses in parades, television ads, and even the Super Bowl.

However, according to PETA, the firm has been keeping an "ugly and dirty secret" about the torturous treatment of horses in order to control how they seem while pulling the wagon. PETA's nine-month study at Warm Springs Ranch in Missouri, which serves as both Grant's farm and the official breeding ground for Budweiser Clydesdales, revealed that some horses have their tailbones severed as newborns, as per their official website.

'Tail Docking is a surgical abuse'

The practice of "tail docking" has historically been used to stop horses' tails from getting in the way of carriage gear, as per Daily Mail. The horse's spine may occasionally be severed using a scalpel or the blood flow is constrained by a tight band, which causes the tissue to lose a life and fall off. One equine veterinarian, though, called the cruel technique "surgical abuse," as per the outlet. The American Veterinary Medical Association and the American Association of Equine Practitioners have likewise denounced it unless it is medically essential. And ten states, as well as many nations in Europe, have reportedly made it illegal. This chilling discovery comes just before Budweiser celebrates the 90th anniversary of its 'World-Famous Budweiser Clydesdales' with a number of parades. Each beer wagon typically has ten horses harnessed to it.

'Abusive and inhumane'

Sid Gustafson, an equine veterinarian and supporter of PETA's cause, declared that depriving a horse of its tail is "abusive and inhumane." "Tail amputation results in a lifetime of impaired balance moving at speed running and turning,'' Gustafson stated. "It is animal-abusive and medically undignified to deprive a horse of their tail, except in cases of medical necessity."

Representatives from Budweiser and Anheuser-Busch attempted to claim that the horses' tail hair had only been "trimmed," according to a video acquired by DailyMail. However, it was discovered that some of the adult horses' tailbones have actually been amputated when PETA's research team spoke with handlers.

'Mutilation done for cosmetic reasons'

The letter, which was sent by Kathy Guillermo, senior vice president of PETA, stated, "There can be no excuse for this mutilation, which is done for cosmetic reasons." The letter said that tail-braiding and tail-wrapping are enough to prevent Clydesdale tails from being caught in wagon hitch equipment. "The iconic Budweiser Clydesdales have long been symbols of American values and traditions, and your company should protect this image to ensure that they don't become synonymous with gratuitous cruelty to horses," the statement continued as per Daily Mail.

'Stop this cruelty'

The distressing technique outraged many people on the internet. Especially when the Super Bowl 2023 aired on Sunday, February 12 and PETA dropped the shocking revelation. Angry Twitter users are asking to "stop this cruelty." A user tweeted, "This is horrible!" Another said, "No no and no! Disgusting." Another user remarked, "I don't agree with altering any animal for any reason except to be fixed. But rich people are gonna do what they want and that's sad learn lessons from your commercials like we did glad I don't drink..." A user pleaded, "Please help stop the tailbones from being amputated with Clydesdales when they are babies." Another said, "What is the matter with some people treating animals like this."
