Spoiler alert for 'Outmatched' Season 1 Episode 7 - 'Failing'

This episode of 'Outmatched' takes a wild turn on parenting as parents Cay (Maggie Lawson) and Mike (Jason Biggs) have to teach some unlikely lessons to their children. Nicole (Ashley Boettcher), the oldest girl in the family has a determination so strong that she's never lost at anything in her life. With the real world that we live in, this may be a set up for an emotional breakdown, because in reality, no one wins at everything.

After hearing daunting stories from their best friends, Irwin (Finesse Mitchel) and his wife, blackjack dealer, Rita (Tisha Campbell), decide it was time that Nicole gets a taste of failure. The parents, already out of options with the many antics they have to deal with, devise a plan where they decide to teach their daughter about failure. The reason being is that when she gets into the real world, she's equipped to handle it.

Meanwhile, the junior members of the family are seen dealing with playtime a little differently as per usual. Brian (Connor Kalopsis) loses a game of chess to his younger brother Marc (Jack Stanton) and seeks some normalcy. The youngest Leila (Oakley Bull), who isn't a gifted child and considered regular by her parents gets a play pal in Brian to tackle a pony and a dancing ball with.

The episodes so far seemed to have addressed common issues that teenagers seem to face, with the added twist of dealing with kids that have extremely high IQ's. While that seems to be a unique peg in itself, the one-liners are rather predictable. With a promising and likable cast nonetheless, the sitcom does bring humor in its short run every week. We're hoping that as the season progresses, the characters develop a bit because as of now, they seem to only have a staccato-type of role in every episode.

'Outmatched' airs Thursdays at 7.30 pm CST on FOX.
