'Outer Banks' Season 3: 18-month time jump sets up storyline for next season

'Outer Banks' Season 3 on Netflix: Is Wilderness therapy real?

Where are the characters now?

If you thought Seasons 1 and 2 were wild, then Season 3 was much much more. The recent season saw the Pogues on one of the most dangerous missions yet. They were seen hunting hunting for El Dorado, the mythical city of gold. The season had a mix of every element. We saw John B working together with Big John, the team gathering clues, betrayals, Ward Cameron trying to connect with his daughter Sarah and eventually sacrificing himself while saving her, and the deaths of Big John and the recently introduced anatagonist, Carlos.

The Pogues found the city of gold and with it, the lives of every one of the gang are changed. After the third season finale did an unexpected 18-month time jump, we were able to see John B and Sarah, running a surf shop together, JJ owning a charter boat, Kiara saving turtles and Pope attending school. The time jump also showed us Pogues and Kooks finally coming to terms with each other.

While everyone was celebrating after finding El Dorado, the Pogues were taken aside by a mysterious older man, who brings a proposition to the group. The mysterious man reveals a captain’s log from 1718 and reveals its owner to be Edward Teach, who is popularly known as the pirate Blackbeard. The mysterious man added that he needed partners as he was getting old and the gang were the first on the list for him to contact.

Potential threats the Pogues face in Season 4

The Pogues face so many hurdles before the story for Season 4 even begins. It was established in Season 3 that Carlos was one of the most powerful and influential people. As he is dead, there is a strong chance that either his colleagues or his family in the West Indies, who were wronged in Guyana, will avenge his death. On the other hand, though Wade died saving his daughter, his elder son Rafe was not there to witness the tragedy. Due to this, Rafe may plot revenge against the Pogues.

The mysterious man's request in secret clearly implied that he did not want anyone to know. This means the government could be involved or even worse, the mysterious man himself is setting up the Pogues as a pawn for finding the treasure. Only Season 4 will reveal these details.

The first three seasons of 'Outer Banks' are streaming exclusively on Netflix.
