'One Chicago' Crossover 2019: 'Chicago P.D.' closes in on the suspect as the three-hour event ends on a massive win for the team

As the episode ends, tensions rise as Intelligence tries to capture the suspect and Will, with the CDC and the CCU scientists manage to find a cure.
PUBLISHED OCT 17, 2019

The final hour of the 'One Chicago' Crossover night is finally here and let's hope it gets a lot calmer from here.

Ruzek and Burgess speak to a man who may know who the culprit and Jay recognizes the man from the video surveillance -- it's one of the scientists from CCU, David Seldon. Jay's brother, Will Halstead walks in on the man destroying the samples at 'Chicago Med' and is attacked by Seldon and is left with a massive wound on his head. We saw earlier that conspiracy theorists are spreading misinformation targeting Mama Garcia's restaurant and Truck 81 comes across a group attacking her. They manage to rescue her but the conspiracy theorists are making an already tense situation worse.

Voight and Halstead go through the hospital to find Seldon but he's escaped the hospital. Now Chicago P.D. is tracking the whole city to find him. We learn more about David Seldon as Intelligence tries to learn his motive and where he could be. Will and Cheryl try to salvage a cure from the microscope samples as time runs out. Amanda's surgery continues in this episode, but she is in a critical condition.

Burgess and Ruzek work to find Seldon in the final hour of the 'One Chicago' crossover (NBC)

Halstead and Upton visit Seldon's ex-wife and Seldon may have visited her. When they reach the house, the door is slightly open so the two go in on high alert. It looks like Seldon might be in a panic room that's tightly sealed, so Cruz and Severide show up as reinforcements to blow open the door. As soon as the door is open, Seldon's ex-wife begins shooting but Jay manages to talk her down. She is questioned by Ruzek later but she's just as confused as they are as to why he is doing this.

Voight shows her the photos of all the victims with the gruesome wounds and tells her that if she doesn't cooperate, she will be incarcerated. She finally reveals that Seldon said he wasn't done yet and he had more work left to do. Seldon left the basement with a satellite and supplies to facilitate his next attack. Intelligence tracks the sat phone at a gas station 45 minutes away and goes after him. At the gas station, Upton and two other police officers try to find him as Voight calls in Platt to help him with the investigation.

Voight decides to get ahead of Seldon by "moving backwards", examining the suspect's life before that day. Meanwhile, Amanda's critical condition is still a cause for worry, especially for Upton. Elsewhere, Halstead finds a loft that Seldon has been paying for and the police head there to capture him. But Seldon may have the weaponized bacteria with him and Voight warns everyone to stay alert. They break into the loft and find that Seldon's next target is the October Fest parade. But the streets are completely empty as the city is in a panic mode and no one showed up for the parade.

Burgess, Ruzek, and Rojas learn that Seldon was triggered by the drastic cut in funding from BRT Health Industries -- and that's where the connection to ground zero is as well, one of the residents was an employee of BRT. Meanwhile, Will and the others have found a treatment for the virus with less than twenty minutes of the crossover left. Seldon is at the offices of BRT Industries and the police go through the building to find him as the whole building is evacuated. Jay Halstead finds Seldon who is holding hostages and Halstead convinces Seldon to talk to him.

Rojas, Burgess, and Ruzek get ready to leave the station at the end of a tense day in the final hour of the 'One Chicago' crossover (NBC)

All this was done by Seldon to show BRT Industries why they were wrong in cutting his funding: that diseases exist that could wipe out the whole world. At gunpoint, Seldon is making them choose to reinstate his funding, also having infected them -- "a bullet to die, or my research to live". In a coordinated move, the rest of Intelligence closes in on Jay and Seldon as the former continues to keep Seldon talking, and Upton gets ready with the sniper rifle. Seldon makes Jay cut himself so that he will also be infected. But before he can spray the bacteria onto Jay, Upton shoots and Intelligence busts in with Voight shooting Seldon dead.

At the end of this crazy night, everyone is finding ways to cope. Ruzek asks Burgess to go home with him and she accepts. The episode ends with a 'Grey's Anatomy'-esque voiceover by Sharon. We also find out that Amanda will be okay -- if people didn't like Dr. Marcel before, they're sure to change their minds with the crossover. Jay and Will end the night at Molly's, relieved that the disaster is over.

That brings us to this end of epic, mind-blowing crossover event and what a massive night it has been! The viewers are certainly going to need a few days to recover from that intense story -- and many, many showers.

The 'Chicago' franchise airs on NBC on Wednesday nights.
