'One Chicago' Crossover 2019: Fans get to see more of Dr. Crockett Marcel's story and less of Dr. Ethan Choi

The crossover episodes see Dr. Crockett Marcel cementing his place as the replacement for Colin Donnell's Dr. Connor Rhodes who left the show in the season 5 premiere.

Now that it's been a few hours since the 'One Chicago' crossover aired, many viewers are rewatching the episodes. For 'Chicago Med', viewers might notice that we got a lot of Dr. Crockett Marcel (Dominic Rains) in this episode. We first saw Dr. Marcel in the season 5 premiere of 'Chicago Med' and by the second episode, it's clear that Dr. Marcel will be going forward as Dr. Connor Rhodes' (Colin Donnell) replacement.

Fans had mixed feelings about Dr. Marcel -- some thought he was the perfect addition, while others felt that he was too arrogant. In the second episode, his overconfident approach during a patient's surgery worried fans that this would lead his story down a bad path, though the surgery went well. There were a few fans who even predicted that Dr. Marcel and Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) will butt heads throughout the course of the season.

Even those at the Gaffney Chicago Medical Center seem to have their problems with Marcel. In the second episode, it was Dr. Noah Sexton, and in the subsequent episode, it was Noah's sister, nurse April. At the end of episode 3, it looked like April might change her opinion about him and that thread continues in the crossover episode. Marcel does not get a break as he rushes between surgeries to treat those who have been infected by the flesh-eating bacteria and April sees all this. They even share a nice moment towards the end of it all.

Featuring Marcel heavily during the crossover will help fans get used to him and it seems to be working. One fan tweeted, "This crossover makes me want to know more about Dr. Marcel’s past/background so bad. He seems so hopeless with what is going on," although another fan countered that they got the opposite vibe from him.

What does disappoint us is that we did not get to see much of Dr. Choi in the crossover episode. That's understandable for a story that featured a whopping 93 characters. On 'Chicago Med', Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) and Dr. Marcel got most of the spotlight and the episode needed to feature the non-doctors of the hospital as well. Choi is one of the strongest characters on the show. But a small part of the episode made us think that perhaps Choi and Marcel could work together in the Hybrid Operating Room (OR) that was headed by Connor in the previous season.

'Chicago Med' airs on NBC on Wednesday nights.
