Who was Oksana Shvets?
Oksana Shvets was born in February 1955 and graduated from the theater studio at the Ivan Franko Theater and the Kiev State Institute of Theater Arts. The famed actress had also worked at the Ternopil Music and Drama Theater and the Kiev Theater of Satire in addition to working with her Young Theater troupe. Shvets is best known for her roles in ‘Tomorrow Will Be Tomorrow’, ‘The Secret of St. Patrick’, ‘House with Lilies’, ‘The Return of Mukhtar’ along with other notable credits.
According to multiple reports, Oksana Shvets was honored with one of Ukraine’s highest honors, the title of which roughly translates to- “Honored Artist of Ukraine”. It also goes by the name of “Well-Deserved Artist” in English. For the unversed, the honor is reserved only for country’s most accomplished performing artists. A lot of civilians getting killed in Ukraine have been reported most recently. A theater was bombed that reportedly sheltered up to 1200 people with the word 'children' written outside the building. The Mariupol Drama Theatre was being used to house people and shelter them from shelling, with meals being provided.

A few social media users paid their tributes to the late actress. One of the users stated, “Such a beautiful, talented life taken away by Evil. So much sorrow in your country. We grieve every loss with you.” Another shared, “RIP. Please Russia stop the war!!! Too many innocent lives taken away!” One user posted, “This... Is... Devastating!!!! Please stop this senseless insanity!!!!” And, one added, “RIP fellow actor, Oksana Shvets: I'm so sorry for all who loved you.” Another concluded, “Russians are killing top artists.”
