President Donald Trump and Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez engaged in a Twitter spat on Thursday night after the president lashed out at the New York representative, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff, Democrats and the media in a series of tweets. While Trump called AOC a "wack job," the freshman congresswoman responded  by saying that he was a "criminal."

The president, on Thursday, retweeted a message from his son Donald Trump Jr., commenting on a strange woman's appearance at an AOC town hall event in Queens on Thursday night. The woman reportedly stood up and went on a rant on climate change, saying: "A Swedish professor is saying you know, eat dead people but that’s not fast enough. So I think your next campaign slogan has to be this: We Got To Start Eating Babies."

Trump Jr tweeted the clip of the woman, saying: "Seems like a normal AOC supporter to me.” The Republican president later retweeted his son's tweet with a message of his own: "AOC is a Wack Job!”

The freshman congresswoman promptly spotted this and responded to the president, saying: "Better than being a criminal who betrays our country.”

Trump tweeted eight times within an hour, following the attack at AOC with his interpretation of why he asked the assistance of a foreign leader to investigate his political rival, former Vice President Joe Biden.

"As the President of the United States, I have an absolute right, perhaps even a duty, to investigate, or have investigated, CORRUPTION, and that would include asking, or suggesting, other Countries to help us out!" Trump tweeted hours after publicly declaring that China should probe Biden too.

Trump's tweet was in reference to an impeachment inquiry initiated against him by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The inquiry was launched after a whistleblower lodged a formal complaint alleging that the president had sought "favor" from Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky to probe Biden. The claim was confirmed after the White House released a transcript of a conversation between Trump and the Ukrainian leader. The Republican, in one his tweets, also threatened to "sue" Pelosi.
