NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: The New York Police Department (NYPD) has been slammed for allegedly allowing the extremist "neo-fascist" right-wing group Proud Boys to commit fare evasion in New York City. In a video that went viral on social media, the cops can be seen allowing the gang members to enter the train station without tickets as a social media user protested.

The viral video has triggered a debate online, with many ridiculing the NYPD for "closely aligning with white supremacists." The controversial group has been charged with seditious conspiracy in connection with a "planned attack" on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.

"NYPD help Proud Boys commit fare evasion & then tell journalists to go back and pay for the fare. Everyone should see this video," Brenna Lip posted on Twitter and it has attracted many reactions. From protests to public rallies, the Proud Boys members have been accused of using aggressive techniques. Many of them have been also convicted of violent crimes.

In the video, Lip can be seen asking the NYPD officer repeatedly, "Proud boys don't have to pay for the fare?" as she walks behind the group members as NYPD allows them in. One of the members says, "We are special Thank you." Then she again asks the man who reacted to her initially, "You don't have to pay for the fare?", to which the Proud Boys member says, "Appreciated it. From your taxes. Thank you." It's "insane," she reacts. As she moves along, an NYPD cop stops her and asks her to go. He says, "I just need you to go," as he barricades her with his arm. She again asks the cop, "I just have to pay for the fare and they don't. Is that the situation you're saying?" To which the cop reacts, "That's correct."

Reacting to the video on Twitter, a user wrote, "Your cops being closely aligned with white supremacists is really not great." Another pointed out, "If that cop doesn’t lose his job it will be further proof how screwed up some police have become. Ridiculous." Mocking the police and the group, one wrote, "Nice. Never paying the fair again. I’m also a proud boy."

Many people blamed the NYC mayor and tagged him in the post too. "Upholding white supremacy is what cops do, this is the system working as it was designed to do," a user reacted. One more compared it with how the NYPD handled Black Lives Matter protests. Tweeted an article showing them making arrests and restraining other protestors while taking them in custody, a user said, "Well yeah, because the only difference between the cops and the proud boys is which outfit they decided to put on that morning."
