Nile Gardiner calls out 'hate-filled woke Left' after New York Times questions cost of Queen's funeral
LONDON, UK: As the royal family prepares for the Queen's funeral on September 19, the New York Times is facing heat for a "sneering attack" on the British monarch's funeral.
According to Express UK, conservative commentator Nile Gardiner has hit out at "America's hate-filled woke left", calling the attack "tedious, nasty and unpleasant". This comes after the New York Times published an article about the expected cost of the funeral which will see several royal members in attendance.

The article read, "The British government has not yet disclosed how much Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral on Monday will cost, saying only that it would provide details 'in due course.'”
The article continued, "But the price tag, which will involve elaborate processions, vigils and rituals, is expected to be significant and will be covered by the state," adding, "Even adjusted for inflation, her funeral is expected to cost more than the last state funeral in Britain, that of Winston Churchill, in 1965, and the ceremonial funeral for Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, in 2002."
The article also added that the expense comes amid a cost of living crisis in the UK.
Calling out the publication, Nile wrote on Twitter: "The sneering attacks on Britain and the Monarchy from The New York Times and America's hate-filled woke Left are tedious, nasty and unpleasant. They may appeal to a small audience of elite Socialists, but the vast majority of Americans, who love the Queen, will not be impressed."

Several Twitter users also bashed the article and threatened to cancel their subscriptions. One user wrote, "And she is worth every penny... she dedicated her life to this Country... she's suffered loss and troubles within her family, and carried on with her duties. She has more than fulfilled her promise to this country. And this is our way of saying 'Thank you, Ma'am.'"
Another wrote, "These American media outlets are happy to send reporters over here though, to cover royal events, to boost their revenues. Hypocrites." A third commnted, "No class or morals. They are embarrassing themselves and their country. They haven’t got a clue have they."

In a different tweet, Nile said, "The woke far Left seek the destruction of Western civilization, its traditions, its culture, and everything it stands for. They wish to tear down our institutions, our history, and destroy the idea of the US and UK leading the world. The British Monarchy is now their top target."

Meanwhile, the paper faced a wave of backlash after the article was published, with some readers threatening to cancel their subscriptions. One user wrote, "Less per person than the price of one copy of your 'newspaper.'" Another added, "Your newspaper has been unfailingly full of snark, on a story that doesn't belong to you. Disappointing. I subscribed for five years, but you've confirmed the wisdom of letting it go."
