Is Nicole Richie OK? Actress's hair catches fire as she blows out birthday candles

As Richie leaned over to blow out the candles placed on her birthday cake, both sides of her dangling hair were set ablaze

In a recent incident, Nicole Richie's hair caught fire as she blew out the candles on Monday night, September 20, on her birthday. The House of Harlow 1960 creative director wrote, "Well… so far 40 is [fire emoji]." The incident took place after Baby2Baby co-CEO Kelly Sawyer placed the cake in front of Richie and she tried to blow the candles out.

As Richie leaned over to blow out the candles placed on her cake, which featured a glamor shot of the 'Making the Cut' judge when she was young, both sides of her dangling hair were set ablaze. The right side of her curls continued to burn even as Stylist Liat Baruch reached over to put out the fire on the left side. The Nikki Fre$h star has posted a video of the incident on Instgram, which has received comments from Amber Valetta, Kelly Rowland, Antoni Porowski, Ellen Pompeo, Big Freedia, Zooey Deschanel, Chelsea Handler, Amy Schumer, and brother-in-law Benji Madden. Her husband Joel Madden commented: "Thst's hot."

Richie, along with her stylist Gregory Russell, have been trying to mend Richie's locks for years now, which were damaged after years of bleaching and dying. Over the decades, Richie has experimented with her looks by changing her hair colour into numerous shades. Hinting at the fact that this may not be the first time the Bless This Mess guest star had met with such an accident, Russel exclaimed: "Stop!!! Again?!?!"

Nicole Richie is an American television personality, fashion designer, and actress, who gained popularity after she appeared in the reality television series The Simple Life (2003–2007). In the series, she starred alongside her childhood friend Paris Hilton. Richie has also appeared as one of the three judges on the reality competition series Fashion Star (2012–2013), later appearing in the unscripted comedy series Candidly Nicole (2014–2015). Candidly Nicloe ran for two seasons, following she starred in the sitcom Great News as Portia Scott-Griffith. He became a judge on the reality competition series 'Making the Cut' in 2020. She is the founder of House of Harlow, popular a lifestyle brand. 

Richie wrote a semi-autobiographical novel called 'The Truth About Diamonds' in 2005. Released by Bharell Jackson Publishing, the novel is mostly fictional but also loosely based on Richie's life. In The New York Times Best-Seller List, the novel made it to number No. 32 in Hardcover Fiction in January 2006. In September 2010, Richie's second novel, Priceless, was released. It chronicles the story of a girl who loses everything in life to ultimately learn about what truly matters.
