LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The ICU nurse accused of killing six, including a pregnant woman and her unborn child in a fiery wreck in Los Angeles, has a track record of car crashes and a history of mental health issues according to multiple sources. Nicole Lorraine Linton, the 37-year-old traveling nurse from Houston, Texas was hit with six counts of murder over the August 4 crash on Monday, August 8.

The nurse reportedly had been involved in 13 prior crashes but was still somehow subcontracted to work in a hospital and allowed to drive, according to Daily Mail. Prosecutors say that Linton was driving up to 90 miles per hour when she ran a red light shortly after 1.30 pm. She allegedly crashed into at least six vehicles. The crash killed 23-year-old Asherey Ryan, who was pregnant, her 11-month-old son, Alonzo, and her boyfriend, 24-year-old Reynold Lester. Two other women in another vehicle were also killed, but their names have not been released. Five other people were treated and released for minor injuries. The six murder charges are for the deaths of the four adults, the 11-month-old child, and the unborn child. The five counts of vehicular manslaughter do not include Ryan's unborn child.

Who is Nicole Lorraine Linton? Family of pregnant woman killed in fiery LA crash wants driver to 'live with this horror’

Linton was in Los Angeles working as a contractor at the Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles Hospital. She was working for the nursing contractor group AMN Healthcare, which she joined in October 2020. Until 2009, Linton was working as a sales manager for General Motors, according to her LinkedIn profile. She began working in healthcare in 2010 as an 'extern' at NYU, despite not completing her nursing degree in 2015. AMN Healthcare did not immediately respond to inquiries regarding Linton's credentials on Tuesday, August 9.

The California Highway Patrol, which is leading the investigation into the collision, declined to provide information on Linton’s driving record on Tuesday. Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón similarly declined to answer reporters’ questions on the suspect’s road record Monday, citing the ongoing investigation. “We’re not discussing that at this point,” he said, according to New York Post.

Linton's attorney said she had a 'profound' history of mental health problems in other states in court on August 8. He said they would have contributed to the crash, and asked for her arraignment to be delayed until October. She did not have drugs or alcohol in her system, and her motive for running the red light and plowing through the intersection remains unclear. Daily Mail reported that it has obtained crash records from two incidents involving Linton in Texas, one in 2013 and one in 2016. It also remains unclear why Linton was able to work in healthcare, let alone in the ICU, with extensive mental health problems as her attorney described.

Linton sobbed in court as she was charged with six counts of murder. LA Times reported that George Gascón told Linton can face life in prison if she gets convicted of all charges.
