Muggers brutally beat up New York City man over $1 on Christmas Eve leaving him in critical condition
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Police in New York City are on the lookout for a group of men who they say viciously attacked a 60-year-old man on the street and left him in critical condition, before escaping with just $1 from their victim.
The NYPD Crime Stoppers released the surveillance video of the harrowing attack which took place at around 1.25 am on Christmas Eve morning in front of 3273 Third Ave in the Morrisania section of the Bronx.
Investigators said the 60-year-old man was walking with another 29-year-old man when they were approached and confronted by a group who demanded that they give up all their belongings.
When the two men refused, the group started beating them, with the surveillance video showing a suspect forcibly grabbing one of the victims by his shirt and hurling him to the ground before stomping him.
The video then cuts to the suspect delivering punch after punch to the victim's head as a second suspect runs from across the street to join in on the assault. It ends with a third suspect seemingly slamming a garbage bin on the head of the victim.
Authorities said the muggers managed to snag just $1 from their victims before fleeing the scene and heading west on East 154th Street. It is currently unclear how many suspects were involved in the attack.
The 60-year-old man was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition while the younger victim reportedly refused any medical treatment.
