New Amsterdam Season 2: Having narrowly escaped death, will Max finally treat his cancer seriously?

As obsessed as Max is with helping everyone have a happy, healthy life, he puts his own health take a backseat - at least when it counted.

'New Amsterdam' has some pressing questions to answer as soon as it premieres on Tuesday, September 24 night, the most important being who will die in the accident that Season 1 finale rocked our world with? But, as soon as that is answered, the NBC show will need to address another issue that has been weighing on our hearts — Max Goodwin's (Ryan Eggold) cancer treatment.

Although his health problems were hidden from the rest of the hospital staff for a long while, the audience, along with Helen Sharpe (Freema Agyeman), learned in the very first episode that Max has cancer and needs to start immediate treatment. It took a few episodes and two different oncologists — one being Helen — to convince Max to take his own health seriously, but he had just started going for treatments regularly when the accident happened.

Our strong guess has consistently been that the show will kill off Max's wife Georgia Goodwin (Lisa O'Hare) for his character development and for the sake of the hospital. Their baby will, however, be alive and well, which means Max's health is even more crucial than he had earlier anticipated. His little girl only has him, and he better come through.

As obsessed as Max is with helping everyone have a happy and healthy life, he puts his own health take a backseat — at least that is what he did when it really counted. However, with Luna's birth, he will have to reconsider this style of living, and that would mean attending chemotherapy sessions regularly and putting his own health above the day to day running of the hospital.

Reportedly, the upcoming season would introduce a new oncologist for Max, and that is potentially for the better. This could either mean that Helen needs a while to recuperate after the accident or that she is taking over as the medical director of 'New Amsterdam,' which leaves her with little time to be an oncologist for Max. Meaning, Max may very well be taking his health seriously, and taking a step back at work. Or, this may all just be wishful thinking.

What we do know, Max is not going anywhere for a while, but for an update on his health, we will need to wait till 'Your Turn' premieres on NBC on Tuesday, September 24.
