New Amsterdam season 2 episode 1 will give us a clue if Reynolds and Bloom have a future together

Don't forget to watch ‘New Amsterdam’ when it returns with season 2 episode 1 ‘Your Turn’ on Tuesday, September 24 to find out how their story unravels.

‘New Amsterdam’ Season 2 has many important questions to answer, starting with those we are saying goodbye to, after that fatal crash season 1 ended with.
NBC’s promos for the show’s upcoming episodes show that there will definitely be one death, and we certainly hope it’s not going to be one of our favorites, Dr. Lauren Bloom (Janet Montgomery). She is among the three people whose lives are at risk, the other two being Dr. Helen Sharpe (Freema Agyeman) and Georgia Goodwin (Lisa O’Hare).

Bloom was one of the most prominent characters at the beginning of the show, and even though her story got more intense over the episodes, we saw less and less of her. One of the most interesting things about her initially was her relationship with Dr. Floyd Reynolds (Jocko Sims), and how she constantly challenged him.

We know that they have a sexual past, but Floyd made it clear to Lauren that he has a vision for his life, and that life doesn’t include a white girlfriend. Like the black male role models that he grew up with, he wants to ensure that he settles down with a black woman, and not make the women in his family feel betrayed.

This was the first storyline that ‘New Amsterdam’ used to explore the complexities of race and inter-racial relationships. While we respect Floyd’s choice to give women of color a leg up at work, and even his awareness of how black women are subconsciously perceived as less attractive when successful black men couple up with white women, we cannot ignore the palpable chemistry between him and Lauren.

She respects his wishes to focus on building his dream family, and even promised her gal pal Evie (Margot Bingham) – who is currently engaged to Floyd – that she has nothing to worry about. However, she is still harboring feelings for him, and it is evident that it was Evie and Floyd’s serious relationship that pushed her over the edge with Adderall.

When Floyd asked his mother about her opinion on him marrying Evie, he was faced with the fact that his family would not be OK with even the woman who best fits into his idea of a dream wife. This is what inspired him to propose to Evie as well. However, when he sees a near-dead Lauren, he might also have to confront the fact that the only reason he rejected her is because of her race, and that he in fact still loves her.
