Trump leaves note for Joe Biden at White House, Internet has fun guessing its content

Considering no one knows what Trump has written in the note, social media users took the liberty of going wild with their imagination

Outgoing President Donald Trump surprised a number of political pundits by not forgoing a 32-year-old tradition of leaving behind a note for incoming commander-in-chief Joe Biden. Former President Ronald Reagan began the tradition when he welcomed his vice president, George H.W. Bush, to the White House with a letter of good wishes for his upcoming tenure, Newsweek reported. Trump, who broke a centuries-old tradition by opting not to attend Biden's inauguration, raised speculation that he would also ignore the tradition of leaving a farewell note for his successor just weeks after a controversial election.

Trump, however, proved the skeptics wrong as he did leave a note for Biden before leaving the White House, Bloomberg reported Wednesday morning. It's unclear what the outgoing president wrote for his successor, especially since deputy press secretary Judd Deere declined to reveal the contents citing privacy for communication between the two presidents. Considering Biden is yet to read the note, it will likely not be made public until after the inauguration at noon.

That said, the move came as a surprise for several pundits, with presidential historian Kate Anderson predicting to Newsweek that Trump wouldn't participate in one of the "ultimate insider rituals" as he sees himself as a political outsider. "He's so committed to breaking traditions and ignoring what's expected of him," Trump biographer Michael D'Antonio also told Newsweek prior to the inauguration. "The best thing one president could do for another is offer a hand in friendship and cooperation for the good of the country and that's not something Trump's ever done in his life."

Considering no one knows what Trump has written in the note, social media users took the liberty of going wild with their imagination.

"Whoa this is the letter Trump left for Biden!!!" comedian Sooz Kempner tweeted alongside a photo of a spoof note. In the note, Kempner referred to one of the most popular episodes of 'Come Dine With Me.'

"Dear Joe. You won Joe. Enjoy the power. I hope it makes you happy," read the handwritten note. "Dear Lord what a sad little life, Joe. You ruined my election completely so you could have the power and I hope you can use it and get some lessons in grace and decorum. Because you have all the grace of a reversing dump truck without any tyres on. Have a good life! Donald." Meanwhile, another Twitter user gleaned inspiration from Sex and the City, referencing Berger's post-it break-up for Carrie from season six. Another user wrote a childlike message scribbled in pencil. "Dear Joe, U suck and I am the best," it read.

Trump left Washington D.C. for Joint Base Andrews in Maryland earlier today to speak at a brief farewell ceremony. He later flew to Florida on the Air Force One for one last time. "We have the greatest country in the world, we have the greatest economy in the world, and as bad as the pandemic was we did something that is really considered a medical miracle," he told his supporters at the base. "I just want to say you are amazing people. This is a great, great country. It is my greatest honor and privilege to have been your president."

"I will always fight for you. I will be watching. I will be listening and I will tell you that the future of this country has never been better," he added. "Have a good life, we will see you soon."
