'New Netflix banger': Horror-thriller 'Red Rose' becomes new binge-watch fave but evokes mixed fan reactions

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The horror-thriller 'Red Rose' has finally dropped on Netflix and now the series is available internationally. This eight-episode series was a BBC Three original released on August 2022. With its premise set in Bolton, UK, 'Red Rose' shows us many high schoolers getting trapped with a killer app that will impact their lives forever. The dangers of technology and how it can easily slink and take over a person's life without them realising is the main narrative thread of this horror-thriller.   

Created by Michael and Paul Clarkson and directed by Lisa Siwe, Ramón Salazar, and Henry Blake, 'Red Rose' stars an ensemble cast including Amelia Clarkson as Wren Davis, Natalie Blair as Ashley Banister, Ellis Howard as Antony Longwell, Ali Khan as Tariq 'Taz' Sadiq, Ashna Rabheru as Jaya Mahajan, Harry Redding as Noah Royston, Natalie Gavin as Rachel Davis, Adam Nagaitis as Rick Bennett, Isis Hainsworth as Rochelle Mason and Samuel Anderson as Vinny Mason.

What is 'Red Rose' about?

'Red Rose' follows a group of teenagers whose lives are turned upside down, after one of their closest friends, Rochelle, dies mysteriously. While every other person in the town writes her death off as a suicide, the rest of her friends thinks there might be a sinister reason behind Rochelle's death. The friends try to get the truth out, which leads them to 'Red Rose', an app that stands in the centre of all the terrible incidents. Once the group interacts with the 'Red Rose' app,  it only put the their lives and their loved ones in danger. What happens next forms the crux of the story.

'Scarred for life'

The release of 'Red Rose' has received mixed to positive responses from the viewers. One fan expressed their view by saying, "Watching some sort of horror show on Netflix. It's just arrived on the platform. It's called RED ROSE. Not too happy with the whole casting style for a start. There's eight episodes. If it goes to a series two. I think I'll pass. If I even make it to the end of this show." While another fan added, "Watching red rose on Netflix. A strange beast, the kids have smart phones but the fashion and music are mid 90s". Another fan added, "@netflix Just started Red Rose, but the thick accents is making it hard to catch a lot of the words. It’s interesting though." One fan expressed her emotional status after watching the series by commenting on the soundtrack that played during Rochelle's death by adding, "Red rose on Netflix didn’t have to spoil the Barbie song for me . Scarred for life". Another fan expressed mixed feelings about this series by saying, "started watching the new netflix show “red rose” today’s morning and i had quite complicated feelings at first but now?? i need a second season ohmygod".

On the other hand, several viewers are praising the show. One fan commented, "Red rose is a crazy ass series on Netflix !!!". Another fan chimed in with excitement and added, "Red rose on Netflix is crazy". While another commented, "Red rose on Netflix is a MADDD watch". Yet another fan chimed in and added, "RED ROSE is the new netflix banger.. yall heard it hear first". Another fan expressed their excitement for the series and requested for season 2 by saying,"just binged red rose on netflix i need everyone to watch it bc i want a season 2!!!!!"
