Spoilers for 'Red Rose'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Red Rose' is an original series aired on BBC Three and is set to make its international debut on Netflix. 'Red Rose' is set in Bolton, UK, and follows the story of a group of friends called 'Dickheads' and how the entry of a mysterious app ruins not only their long-term friendship but also costs a life. Rochelle (played by Isis Hainsworth) is the unofficial leader of the group. She has twin sisters and a working single father.

Rochelle has lost her mother, who killed herself. Living in a poor condition, she is not invited to a party as it requires money and a nice dress. Moreover, when she sees her best friend from her childhood, Wern (played by Amelia Clarkson) making out with another member of 'Dickheads', Noah (played by Harry Redding), Rochelle feels left out. At that moment, she receives a link to an app called Red Rose and Rochelle's life is not as the same ever since.

How does Rochelle's life change in a day?

The BBC Three series' lead, Rochelle, only opens the link as it was from Becky Fox (played by Amara Okereke), who is one of her classmates. The interactive Red Rose app asks Rochelle several questions. One day, when the power goes off in Rochelle's house, the app asks her to write on a mirror what she wants and she answers 'Wealth Power Respect'. In an instant, the power in her house comes back and she gets a gorgeous dress and shoes to wear for the party. It is at this time that the sinister nature of the app comes out as it blackmails Rochelle to kiss Noah at the party and she does it, ruining her friendship with Wren.

Meanwhile, her sisters are scared by an intruder back at home. Rochelle begins to see her dead mother speak to her on phone and Rochelle's communication with her friends is either blocked or changed. She writes a letter to Wren explaining all the craziness she has been facing but Wren does not believe Rochelle. This leads to a series of miscommunications with her friends and eventually the death of Rochelle. While most believe Rochelle's death to be a suicide, Wren and the gang suspect foul play. This leads to Wren receiving the same link that Rochelle received and they begin to investigate the death of their best friend.

What is Red Rose and why it haunts people?

Red Rose is the app that Rochelle receives through a link. Posing as an unharmful conversational app, it is later revealed to be a deadlier website on the dark web. The lives of the people who have downloaded the app are being controlled by the players and watched live by numerous people like a video game. The app was created by Jacob (played by Charlie Hiscock) in order to know more about his crush Alyssa (played by Robyn Cara) and he even gets access to every camera in her house.

However, things go sideways when Alyssa rejects Jacob and it crushes him. A mysterious participant on his private chatbox, The Gardner, consoles him and gets access to programming code from Jacob, saying that he would help Jacob unite with Alyssa. Unbeknownst to Jacob, The Gardner and a few others bully Alyssa and kill her. They have been using the website as a live game ever since. The eight-episode series ends with Red Rose taking a newer form and currently interacting with the people in Tokyo. And things are getting interesting now as the scale of the stakes is higher and that the deadly, dark-web website has gone international.
