Rom-com lovers across the world cannot wait to catch a glimpse of Indonesia's favorite stars Acha Septriasa and Reza Rahadian, as they depict a beautiful modern-day take on the legend of Layla-Majnun.
The upcoming Netflix drama 'Layla Majnun' promises an emotional journey interwoven through the lives of Layla, a lecturer in Azerbaijan, and Samir aka Majnun, her student and a great admirer of her work. Their love for each other is timeless, but an arranged marriage comes in their way of getting together.
The movie, directed by Monty Tiwa and written by Alim Sudio, is all set to release on February 11, 2021.

Cast
Acha Septriasa
Acha Septriasa stars as the titular female lead Layla in the film. Layla is an ambitious woman who is elated to find a job as a guest lecturer in Azerbaijan, far away from her home. Before she leaves, she commits marriage to Ibnu Salam, who comes to her family with a proposal.
Born as the third of six children, Septriasa is now a well-known actress in the Indonesian film domain, along with her younger sister Juwita Maritsa. Septriasa started her career in entertainment as a model in the Gadis Sampul pageant, hosted by the teen magazine Gadis.
Her film debut happened in 2005 with 'Apa Artinya Cinta' as a supporting actress. In 2006, she shot to fame with her role in 'Heart', where she also sang for the soundtrack album that got international exposure. In the film, she starred opposite Nirina Zubir and her boyfriend of the time, Irwansyah. Septriasa has sung in several movies after that and also released her first solo album 'Keputusan Hati' (Heart's Decision) in 2009. She acted with Irwansyah and her sister Maritsa in the teen romance 'Love is Cinta', and was also cast as the host of the Indonesian variety show 'Dahsyat'.
Reza Rahadian
Reza Rahadian plays the role of Samir in 'Layla Majnun' opposite Septriasa. Samir is her student who falls in love with her.
Rahadian is a prominent Indonesian star whose rise to fame stemmed from his iconic role in 'Perempuan Berkalung Sorban'. In 2004, he made his film debut while also working as a model to earn coverage in the entertainment industry and launch his career as an actor.
Rahadian acted in multiple films after that in various genres, ranging from horror to romance to biopics. His portrayal of the former president BJ Habibie in 'Habibie & Ainun' earned him many acclaims. He is a recurring face in sinetron (Indonesian soap opera) including popular ones like 'Culunnya Pacarku', 'Idola' and 'My Lecturer My Husband', also directed by Monty Tiwa, the director of 'Layla Majnun'.
Rahadian has won the Citra Award for acting more than once, since the first time in 2009. He has also directed a short film 'Sebelah'.
Baim Wong
Baim Wong stars as Ibnu Salam in 'Layla Majnun'. Wong is a popular Indonesian actor, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. He launched his career in the entertainment industry by starring in soap opera in 1997. He is married to supermodel Paula Verhoeven since 2018.
Dian Nitami
Veteran actress Dian Nitami essays the role of Fatmi in the Netflix movie. The 49-year-old actress is well-known for her roles in 'Surat Cinta Untuk Starla the Movie' and 'Pengantin'. She is married to popular star Anjasmara since 1999.
Uli Herdinansyah
Herdinansyah portrays the role of Ilham Ismail in the movie. The actor is recognized widely for his roles in films like 'Test Pack' and 'I Miss You'.
