Netflix has a vast catalog of compelling international titles and they are in no mood to stop. The streaming platform’s latest non-English language that is set to become your latest obsession is ‘Chosen’. The Danish sci-fi series revolves around a girl named Emma (Malaika Mosendane) who unravels a dirty and dangerous truth about her hometown Middelbo.

The opening episode of the Netflix series gives us an idea of how things are going to get for Emma and the gang. During the episode, we get to know that Middelbo was a happening town in the past and also one of the richest. However, when the shipping yard closed, the town became boring. But something happened 17 years ago that made the town famous again. A meteor crashed in the town and the man who first saw the meteor, Hussein, thought of making a fortune out of it. He quickly set up a Meteor Museum and organized a fair where people would come from different parts of the country to see the fragments of the meteor.

One day, when Emma, who is a tour guide at the fair, was showing a big chunk of the meteor to everyone, something happened that changed everything. One of the kids touched the meteor and it broke after falling on the ground. That made Emma curious and she believed that this is a “rock”, not a chunk from a meteor. As soon as he talks to the manager, he fires her from the job.

Emma is feeling really bad however, she is curious to know why everyone has been lying about the meteor? She calls Hussein and tells her about what happened at the fair. He calls her at his home and asks her to keep her mouth shut about the situation. The entire scenario makes her realize that the story of a meteor crashing in the town is nothing but a lie, and she wants to know why everyone is lying.

Elsewhere, she meets a group of young people who are also investigating the same. They believe that there were some people present there when the meteor crashed and only they can tell the truth.

The episode ends with a spaceship crashing in the town and a strange-looking person getting out of it. The person, wearing a robot-like dress, walks out of the woods and makes his/her way to the city. What is the person from the spaceship looking for? Does he/she mean any harm to the people of Middelbo?
